Title: Raspberries sprouting advice please
Post by: Digeroo on December 03, 2011, 21:35:36
The warm weather has got my autumn raspberries going and there is already half an inch of green shoots poking up through the ground.  I am worried the frost will get them.   Will they produce more shoots in the spring, or should I earth them up to protect from the frost.

I'd leave them be as whatever the weather they should still produce shoots in the spring.

What about a mulch? I've just mulched mine with shreddings from a pruning sesion.

Actually all mine are well mulched up with leaves to try in increase the acidity.  But the green shoots are already coming through it.   Nice to hear they will produce some more come spring.  Actually it never ceased to surprise me just how nature manages to cope with changing conditions.
