Title: What Posts?
Post by: Sinbad7 on November 16, 2011, 10:39:29
I want to put some posts up with straining wires running through for my raspberries, what posts would you suggest I get?  I don't want to spend a fortune but want them to last a while.

I bought the treated green round ones (maybe 3 inch diameter) from a horsey kind of a place & they rotted in 3 years :(

I'll avoid those then, thanks Ollie :)

When we set up our fruit plot, we used Metposts (or similar) with 2" x 2" (50mm) treated posts.  They've lasted for 6 years with no sign of deterioration, and the posts are sufficiently high to be shortened when they start to rot.

Looking at the Wickes catalog, they'll currently cost £6 per spike and just over £3 per post, so with bolts and wires that'd be, say, £22 for a row of rasps.  That may seem like a lot, but it's not much per plant.

Brilliant, sounds good to me.  Thanks Melbourne
