Just to say a big hello to you all.Yet another newbie.
I've been very fortunate I think. An old gentleman had my allotment before me and has taken great care of it, just the winters weed growth to get out.
Hope to find out as much as possible for my new venture, never even planted a flower or seed in my life!!!!
Cant wait.
Hi Dirkdigger, are you in for some fun, hope you enjoy your self, nice to see you on here, grow things you and yours like to eat, try to keep a spot were you can relax, with flowers, hope to hear from you again
windy :) :) ;)
Hello Dirkdigger :)
New allotment in good order - you lucky thing. If you've never grown anything from seed you don't know what you've been missing. Once you do grow from seed you'll be hooked cos it's highly addictive!
Good luck Wardy
Welcome!
Have fun!
All the best
Jemma

Welcome Dirkdigger :)
Hi welcome!
Good luck with your allotment and may your harvests be plentyful.
Hi to you all, I just hope I can follow some of the examples set by all you green fingered people.
The site I belong to seems to be a very nice friendly bunch, full of good advice.
I'm sure you will be hearing and seeing a lot from me, my other hobby is photography so plenty of pictures to come ( good times and bad ) as they say if you don't learn by your mistakes.
Is there any limit on size or types of photo's ? IE preferably jpeg ?
Bye for now
Dirk

Hello Dirkdigger
Welcome to A4A. Well done on getting your lottie - but a word of warning. It's compulsive. Once you start growing things you can't stop! You'll see what I mean. Just wait until August.
Take care and keep in touch.
Thanks for the welcome everyone, I will be keeping my eyes peeled for all the tips and recommendations.
How big is my allotment on my tenancy agreement it says 5 perches ? whats a perch ? thought it was a fish
Many thanks.
:)
A Perch.......................Stand for a Budgie too ;)
Greetings Take care Tulip-23 Mike :D
a perch is a pole which is 5.5yards or 16 feet six
Many thanks slyfox-Mal,
On that basis I would say my new allotment is about 75 ft by 25 ft, with a path splitting it into 2 plots. I've cleared the first plot by that inhumane torturous thing called digging. The second plot I hope weather permitting cleared by the end of the week.
Potatoes chitting in the conservatory in a box, decided for our first attempt :
First early= Pentland javelin ( any good ?)
Second early= Charlotte
Main crop= Desiree
two lots of carrots, garlic, runner beans................ I think you got the picture.
All I hope we get from the first season growing is something for our efforts, not expecting miracles. But more than all the vegetables I feel part of a very happy community, already had cups of tea from other allotment holders in there nice sheds( must get one asap) plenty of encouragement and lots of advice.
Hope to keep allinformed of my new adventure.
Bye for now ;)
Hi to you all,
as requested a photo of my new allotment. Only half has been cleared at the moment. Not a great photo but gives you an insight to my plot.

Looking grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreat!
Very neat, love the grass pathways, you must have nice people living round by you with fences that low. Your images need reducing in the pixcels as our text is running off the screen ;D
Yes the whole site is great, 2 of the senior members keep all the paths in great shape. I live in deepest Somerset, as far as I'm aware not a lot of harm comes to this site in the town as quite a lot of the members live in the houses all around.
Sorry about picture size will make sure any future images are smaller.
You are in for a treat...
Its so exciting to reap the rewards of your hard work.
It looks like you are off to a flying start as your lottie looks
to be in tip top condition.
Biggest plus of course, is that you will find a lot of friendly people
on this forum and on your allotment site, who are only too willing to offer advice
and answer queries.
GO FOR IT!!
Debs ;)
Hey Dirkdigger, nice to have another person from Somerset on board, thought i was the only one. I am in Ilminster. our lottie is still too wet to work on , yours looks nice and tidy!!!
Hi Cookie, yes I to am from poor old Somerset. Smellytown to be exact. Only took the allotment on 3 weeks ago. Luckily the old man who had the allotment before looked after it. He had to give it up because of bad health. Thinking of offering him some of my first harvest as a thank you for all his hard work over the years.
Went over today for an hour, bit of a cold wind.
Nice to hear another local on the forum.
Dirk.
