Post by: luckycharlie on October 27, 2011, 22:18:28

It does sound as if they might be.  ;)

I think I might buy another small batch from somewhere else and plonk some Spring flowering in to be on the safe side.

My saffron crocus are also flowering after putting the bulbs in less than 3 weeks ago. If I get any saffron strands from them, will this be the quickest plant to harvest ratio possible?  :)

DH loves the idea of having naked ladies in his garden  ;D ;D ;D

How can I tell what variety we have ?

Mine are purple quite tall and no leaves.

That sounds like 'naked ladies'....no leaves=no clothes.. ;) ;D Colchicum bulbs are much larger than Crocuses...and slightly different shape too.
There is several varieties of these..so it maybe difficult to give them exact variety name...they are all different shades of lilac and some have lot of petals and other are just simple type.
Perharps having a look at bulb nurseries sites for photos and compairing what you've got will do the job?
Google Colchicum..and see what comes up.. ;)
