Has anyone else grown this variety? If so, have you found it to be blight resistant?
I ask as of the 33 different plants I grew outside this year, it was the only one still standing last week. I had to pull up 31 of them at the beginning of August, and another a week or so later, as they all had blight. This one however was fine, suprisingly so considering that it was at the centre of my tomato bed, in the 3rd row (5 in total) and 4th plant along.
Not one I'm familiar with...
is it one of the "Anannas" synonyms?
I think so. I bought the seeds a couple of years ago from Pennard Plants, but hadn't got round to growing any until this year ::) (too many seeds? No, surely that's an oxymoron )
The one ripe fruit that I managed to ripen on the plant, without it going awol >:(, wasn't the biggest, about 3 oz, but was yellow with pink streaks, and red running through the inside.
I managed to save some seed from the fruit I did get, so would anyone be interested in trying a couple to see if it was just a fluke, or if it has passed down its blight resistance?
I missed this thread first time around, did it look anything like this 'Pineapple'? http://t.tatianastomatobase.com:88/wiki/Pineapple
Really interesting it survived blight, I'd love to try a couple of seeds if you have them spare. I seem to live in a blight prone area, so always looking for resilient types. Koralik did really well here last year, well worth growing in a blighty spot. I've got lots I can swap or send a SAE if you prefer?
Hi Jayb, yes it looks just like that. The original packet from Pennard is printed like this:
Tomato
Pineapple
'Starburst'
So their own strain? I have no idea, they don't do it any longer, though looking at the link you sent, a couple of rogue Pineapples seem to have become popular in their own right, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed :)
