I have ripe orange pumpkins of the type that you see every year in supermarkets, and apart from halloween lanterns, am wondering what to do with them. I have read some recipes which state that this type is not good for eating? any ideas please/recipes?
Look on the recipes page there are lots of ideas there.
I just cut into cubes and fry in butter and oil until they are brown. Very tasty. There are some nice soup recipes as well.
Roasted with Sunday lunch
Pumpkin soup
Or may I recommend:
Pumpkin marmalade (this year's second pumpkin discovery for us), which I've got a recipe for at http://bit.ly/t8KHHI
Pumpkin purée with goats cheese (the earlier pumpkin discovery). See http://bit.ly/faJITl
darn - that pumpkin puree with goats cheese looks great.
Then there is also american pumpkin pie.
Hi PeterVV,
all the above are true, but the orange halloween type pumpkins are not as tasty as some of the other squashes. I think this is what the recipes meant. they are usually grown for size, but are still edible, and homegrown ones will be better than shop bought ;D ;D ;D
thanks everyone, when the kids come to carve them I will save the flesh...
Never realised how hard pumpkin flesh was until the first time I scooped it out to carve a pumpkin. It took me all day with a spoon.
