Is it time yet to bring in my squash..live in NE ENgland..It's going to get colder..so the forecast says...

I brought mine in a week ago as frosts were forecast here for later this week and then more specifically for Sunday night. In fact, we had a frost last night so I'm pleased the pumpkins are in.

Last year we stored them all in an outbuilding but it was too cold and they froze to a mush so this year they're in the garage which stays warmer.

I harvested mine last weekend. The nights are getting colder and I didn't want to risk frost damage. They won't get any larger at this time of year. At the moment they are sitting on the staging in the greenhouse. Next week I will wipe them clean and bring them indoors for storing.

I just couldn't believe there were so many squash, they seemed so slow to get going and I thought I wouldn't get many this year. I'd already given about 10 away before I took the photo.

A good looking interesting mixture of a squash harvest that will make nice fall decorations as well.

I was really pleased with my harvest - 6 Black Futsu, all about teh size of your head! the Qld Blues were odd - I am sure that was all I planted but I got two very typical lookers then 2 that are actually grey and more oval??? Also one Atlantic Giant of 8 kilos! And 2 Turk's Turban and 3 red pumpkins that look like Rouge d'étampes, which is odd because I didn't have seeds of those???

So the house is overflowing with pumpkins and hubby is making those odd gurgling noises and facial twitching again ;) ;D
