Chesterfield potato day is on 28th January next year, however pre-orders (have to be paid for at ordering time) can be sent in and it ensures you get the varieties you want. Also at 10p per tubur they are cheaper.
There is a good choice and I was very pleased with what I grew last year.

You can collect on the day- or if that is a problem can arrange alternative, but Saturday is a popular market day in chesterfield so worth a trip to see the Crooked Spire!!!
I'll have to visit my dad that weekend and just happen to visit the venue. Where about in Chesterfield is it held?
It will be in the town centre- not sure yet- what happens is that they get to use a vacant shop for the day.
so venue is not known at this stage, usually preety central though.

does anyone know whether Edgecote Purple go to mush when you boil it? I had about 10 varieties that got mixed up in the planting this yr, and there's this particular type is not edible. even trying to par-boil it for roasties, it disintegrates within 5mins. the potato itself has a thicker than normal skin than most where sometimes, you'd find blemishes of purple colouring on the white flesh.
there isn't another purple variety that i bought, so i'm thinking that it must be this one.
Sorry..haven't grown Edgecote before..but have you tried roasting them without par-boiling?..try wedges.
This year wasn't too good for potatoes at all..even varieties that are waxy type and I've never had problems with breaking up when cooking, where going mushy while in pan >:( I blame the freak weather...
hi this was our first year at growing anything and i thought our potato crop was a relay good crop. And i have not had any that has gone to mush.
GL: they were made into roasties yesterday by my OH and they weren't all that tasty in flavour nor the texture was good.
tm41: the other varieties i grew as a 1st time potato grower had done ok-ish in regards to the yields whereas most of them were around the 1-2kg mark whilst about about a third of the crop had nothing.. ::) which i was perplexed about...

The venue for Chesterfield Potato day is in the Pavements shopping centre. It is in Unit 23 which is opposite Poundland and next to the Bargain Bookshop.

I've had a good dig into my potato and garlic bags and all look very good...and I'm very impressed with the size of the garlic bulbs. You don't normally get big ones like that from seed companies..they were MASSIVE! :o
I've now split them up and separated the 'seed' cloves from 'to eat' cloves and have good amount of both.
Hopefully you had a good day and managed to clear it all...I SHALL come again next year.. ;D

Press came and took pictures of Mr and Mrs Mayor, but it was the Derbyshire times, no telly I think.
