Title: BTHomeHub3 wireless printer issues: offline
Post by: pg on October 13, 2011, 09:38:45
Got a friend who uses a BTHomeHub (latest version 3) as their router. Problem is it can't seem to connect to the new Epson all-in-one printer. I have added the printer to the wireless network, & it says it's there, but it won't print wirelessly from the computer - the Control Panel/Printers is telling me the printer is there, it is the Default printer but it is Offline.

Having Googled this issue it would seem to be a known issue with the hub.

Have seen suggestions to remove the printer from the computer & reinstall, others to access the BTHomeHub Control Panel via its IP address and change the settings from b/g/n to b/g.

Will give these a try but wondered if anyone else had experienced this issue & how you resolved it.

My OH,says the best solution is to drop BT- we have had nothing but trouble with our internet since we changed to them.  >:(

I would try a couple of things.

Try it wired to make sure it works
Make sure you have selected the same sort of encryption WEP etc on the hub and printer and check the passphrase is correct
Remove encryption on the HH3 and printer and try without any security key - then try WEP then try WPA .  If its new it shoudn't make any odds but worth a try (if you are happy to do this sort of thing)
Change the wireless setting on the HH3 to B/G as opposed to B/G/N is a worthwhile thing to do.

I'm with BT and, when I got my Canon wireless all-in-one printer, I couldn't get it to print either!

I think what I did in the end was to switch off my firewall. As I remember, it printed then and I was able to change the firewall settings to allow.....  sorry, it's all getting a bit vague now..........   I think I could allow the port that the printer ws using to remain open when the firewall was on.

Sorry, I don't remember exactly how I overcame the problem but it was something quite simple and stupid!

I've a feeling I switched off the firewall and ran the installation software again, which resulted in everything setting itself up properly without interruption!

Vague I know, but I'm sure the firewall was at the bottom of it all.

Check Microsoft security centre and any other anti-virus/firewall software you might have.

Good luck!!
