Hi guys
Been 'lurking' for quite a while now, but I made two discoveries this weekend which I'd like to share. (More experienced gardeners will probably already know these things.)
Started to spread my manure on my plot. When I unscrewed the sides of my manure box I was amazed to see that the whole heap was crawling with red worms. These seem to have turned the hard 'pellets' of horse manure into a fine 'tilth', like the sort of compost you'd buy from a garden centre (aka 'black gold').
Like everything else, you can buy red worms (which I'd say are GOOD LADS) on the internet, so I'll be doing that next year.
:)
I don't think you need to buy them- they just appear in my compost in their hundreds! :D
Or did you mean you'll be SELLING them on ebay? ;D
No need to buy them. There are always a few in the soil, and they breed like flies once they find the right conditions.
