Title: Rhubard ok to eat?
Post by: Strawberrygirl on October 05, 2011, 17:41:22
I have been given a huge bundle of rhubarb but i am not sure if it's still ok to use. The stalks appear to be very dry inside with almost a sponge type look to them and there are also lots of brown spots on the stalks. Can i still use them?  Thank you  :)

Well it's a bit dodgy at this time of year - personally I don't pick much after July.  I don't think it will do you any harm (although there is a thread on here that suggests it is possible) but it will be pretty tart and drying on the mouth.
Why not make some Rhubarb Schnapps - just chop it up - cover with vodka - add some sugar and leave it till Christmas!

It certainly won't taste very good so all I would do is add it to the compost heap!
