Title: Best way to store butternut squash
Post by: kt. on October 03, 2011, 19:51:32
From my 10-12 plants i have 6 butternut squash that were harvested 4 days ago and now stored in a blue plastic tray in my shed.  Will this be OK or should i be doing something else instead. ???

I would be placing them in a sunny window to dry off for a couple of weeks before storing them in a cool, frost free place. Many people got caught out last year when their sheds proved not to be frost free.

They wont like it if they get too cold - mine turned to mush in the shed last year after the early cold snap..

Some people disinfect them to help storage, I used the disinfectant for babies bottles on mine as it must be safe.
