Title: Chard question
Post by: Crystalmoon on September 26, 2011, 09:19:27
Hi everyone, last year I left some chard carry on through the winter & it has been growing well all year sofar. Each time it tried to go to seed I just cut off the flower stalk. It still seems to be really healthy, lovely bright green leaves & white stalks etc. The taste is still good. Just wondering if it will be ok to let it carry on agian through the winter & to carry on eating it? Has anyone else had the same chard for 3 years? x jane

I've had it for 2 years but not three. I don't see any reason why you shouldn't keep it for three years provided you remove flowerheads and eat the new leaves rather than the old.

I may leave it where it is & see what happens this winter then  ;) x Jane
