Digerooooooooooooooooooooooo ;) ;D.
On the ball Granny J ;D
Digeroo has been in touch and is unable to join in for the moment, but will be back in the hat as soon as I have the ok.
Sooooooooooo another draw, easy part. Another clue, hard part. I may be a little while! ;D
i am putting my seeds in the post to day
Thanks Brown thumb, I'll let you know when it arrives :)
A clue to the identity of the next person drawn;
You will find this person in a location with some well known books and nearby was the home of an innovative gardener.
Slow down please. Me brain don't work too well at mo/generally
Pansy Potter?
Well knows books? Beatrix Potter?
Who lived in Cumbria, but I can't think of an innovative Cumbrian gardener.
I'm stumped, I am useless at Pub Quizzes as well
IT'S MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
I'm from Loughborough which is the home of Ladybird books.
And Robert Bakewell is the gardener.
(but i might be wrong)
???..its all gone quiet here.. ???...have I missed something ???

Along with second hand chewing gum, old toffee papers, bus tickets? ;D ;D ;D
I think there will be a lag, as each person sends some seeds to JayB, and gets some back- then next person gets pulled out the hat.
If anyone next person away for a few days, post delays etc.
Take deep breaths, plenty of time till next spring.
Oh but the excitement - what's in those pockets??? :P :P :P
Oh but the excitement - what's in those pockets???
Oh, this and that..mainly second hand chewing gum, old toffee papers and dirty old paracetamols.. ;) ;D..don't do busses.. ::)
As for seeds....well..you just have to wait.. ;) I've still got quite a lot drying out and I'm hoping some of those would make it for the swap list.
Just a little pause while I added seeds donated by Ceres and Stopp to the list. Lots and lots of lovely seeds thank you both ;D
List will very shortly be on it's way to Ellen K.
Hope it is ok with you guys but I've offered Brown Thumb another go at the end of the swap as she missed out on the above selection and it didn't quite seem fair to me :)
I'm just sorting out my seed, so I'll be adding to it when my turn comes. The beans are nowhere near ready yet.
loads of lovely seeds arrived to day cant wait for next years seed sowing time and no i am not telling what i had and spoil the surprise for others :-X well not until the end ;D
List was sent sent fairly late on 3rd to Ellen, also the name of the next person, I'm looking forward to reading the next clue ;D
Glad the seeds have arrived Brown thumb ;D I was going to keep a list of what was coming in and out for others to follow but perhaps just what's going out for the time being would be better?
I'm putting user name initials on the list of seeds for varieties sent in. To my mind makes it a little more personal and friendly, I think it's nice knowing who has kindly shared something I maybe growing next year :)
Ohhh..I'm looking forward for the next clue too.. ;D
Hope it is ok with you guys but I've offered Brown Thumb another go at the end of the swap
..fine with me.. ;)..and somebody is lucky one having 'double dip'.. ;D
How many packets did you get now BT?..just a little teaser...please.. ;D
Ive some lovely seeds I've never grown before very generous amounts more than i asked for so very happy with these with out another dip but cant resist seeds also Mr fothergills seed catalogue arrived to day having a quick look before going back to work split shift Already have a long list ;D
Get your thinking heads on, Ellen K has pm'd me the next clue;
"Doesn't rhyme with Smith"
Grannyjanny???
Good try PP hope you are right as Grannyjanny does rhyme, I've been trying rhyming slang on everyone's name and Smith, makes my head hurt.
"Doesn't rhyme with Smith"
..ohh..If I take it literally, I can't get non of the names in a list to rhyme with it.. ::) ;D..you are too clever for me..
Gold star to Pansy Potter
As given by Ellen K "Doesn't rhyme with Smith, As in Granny Smith apples -> GrannyJanny, which is a rhyme"
Lovely. I'm afraid that you will have to remind me what to do. ;D
List has jsut been sent to Grannyjanny, just going to have a cuppa and draw the next name which I'll also send to Grannyj for her to think of the next clue :)
Just emailed Jayb. I wouldn't have got that clue in a thousand years. Well done PP ;). I'm searching for an acupuncturist so not been taking much notice today. I will do the necessary ASAP. I need time, what a list ;D.

[/quot
Ok I've got it. I do nowt just wait for me name to come out of the hat ;D ;D ;D
I think perhaps I should have been a bit clearer explaining and I've had a couple of queries so I hope this will help;
I have placed all the names in a hat and I'm drawing one out at a time so everyone takes a turn. Clues are then posted on the thread to the identity of the person who's turn it is next. Once the identity has been guessed I'll pm a list of 'what's in the parcel' to them.
When your turn comes around, make your requests and what you are offering. It is fine if you request 1 or 50, just try and swap like for like, eg amount of varieties and size of packet. Although it doesn't need to be exact, just keep it fair.
I'll also let you know the name of the next person and it will be up to you to think of and post a clue
I'll pm you my address for you to send in your seeds with a Stamped Self Addressed envelope (or label and stamps if you want to reuse the one envelope), I'll leave it to you to ensure it is large enough with adequate postage for your request (eg peas beans etc will be bulkier and weigh more, if in doubt you can include spare stamps and if not needed they will be returned in your parcel.)
For swapping, only send viable seeds with a decent date. Make sure seeds are in packets and clearly labelled with variety and sow by date or when saved.
When your envelope is received by me, I'll update the seed list with your goodies and pop your chosen seeds back in the post to you ;D
When I first started listing I didn't realise I had seeds past ther sow by date. I've added these in separately and as an addition to the main swapping list. They are split into two sections, one Sow 2011 and the other pre 2011 or seeds without a date on them. I think good results can still be achieved with these seeds. These are help yourself seeds, take as many as you wish and no need to swap anything back for these. Though if you wish to add some more seeds to the swap that's super.
A couple of people are not able to take part at the moment, but I've kept it open for them to join in again if they choose to.
I don't think there is much chance of it running low ;D but I'll keep the parcel topped up if it does start to run down! I'm looking forward to seeing how the parcel develops; I'll have more things to add as they are harvested and dried. Hopefully it will be a resource available to us for a good while yet :)
I'll bring my beans home to dry; I was thinking about it anyway as they're not doing anything now, just hanging on the plants, which are pretty well dormant or dying back slowly.
I've had Granny's want list.
Here is her clue for the next person
Providential priest
I've lost with the glue again... ::)
Galina ???....NO,.. Stevens?
Get your thinking caps on folks, the list is wonderful. I had to go through it several times, just to make sure I haven't missed anything ;) ;D.
Manicscousers?
Again I am probably getting the wrong end of the stick entirely, but that does not stop me sticking my neck out ;D ;D ;D
Manic street preachers = priest
Providential = ???

Providential............Lucky.................Charlie..............Chaplin.
well done that seems the closest match so far :)
Meanings of providential
Adjective:
1.Occurring at a favorable time; opportune.
2.Involving divine foresight or intervention.
There is an album called 'God save the Manics' from Manic Street Preachers. Would definition 2, ie divine intervention. count? Is the list in question the list of their albums?
I know, that's just clutching at straws ....... ;D ;D ;D but I'm sticking by Manicscousers.
GJ....you are making this really difficult for us.. ::) :)...by the time we finally manage to solve this 'puzzle', countdown will be a doddle.. ;D
Can we have a clue GJ One aimed at thicker people ;D ;D ;D ;D

I don't know whether my beans will be dried off in time, but anyway I can definitely add to that list when it reaches me.

I've pm'd the list to Lottie Lou, but I notice she has not been about since the 11th.
I know things were a bit hectic for her. I'll start thinking up a clue in case she is busy for a few days :)
I'm hoping to hear from Lottie Lou before too long, but perhaps be best if we go ahead with a clue to the next person. I've pm'd Lottie to let her know.
Clue
Rebel herb cry not
Pansy Potter!!
;D
Try again
Are non-participants allowed to solve the clue?
More the merrier ;D
Tis an anagram! And the next recipient is Robert Brenchley!!
I cheated somewhat ;D
Top marks to grawrc!
Just a quick update, Robert had the list in the week and I'm looking forward to seeing what is going to be coming in and out :)
Lotty Lou has been in touch and will be sending a list soon :)
I've posted Luckycharlie's seeds, hopefully arriving shortly :)
The next name has been drawn, which I forwarded to Robert this morning.

Does anyone have JayB's address? I've got a seed parcel ready to go off, but I've deleted it, and she hasn't been on the site since the weekend.
Just sent a Pm to you.
X Chas
Thanks. I'll post it in a bit.
If a new clue is going up soon could it PLEASE be held back for a few hours. I am going for a back massage this PM & would like to have a go ;) ;D.
Yes and I'm off to the park ;D ;D
X Chas
Have fun Chas, I will ;) ;D.
Let us know when you are back ;D ;D ;D
oops sorry no pun intended :-[
Will do PKL. I could be gone some time ;) ;D. We are a couple of gas bags while I have it done. Got the ironing done this AM. If I go in with an aching back it's so much more enjoyable ;).
I'm back ;D. We were chatting for half an hour before she got the oils ready. I feel very relaxed & calm, looooooooovely, in fact very 8).
I'm back too!! Went to Walton Park and had a ride on the train!!
X Chas
I love Walton Park. Rachel takes little one there quite often.
Does anyone know if JayB's OK? She hasn't been on the site since the 23rd, and I don't know whether my seeds reached her.
PM'd her a few days ago but haven't heard anything. Hope she is okay as she has taken on so much with all the organising etc.
She sent me the seed list and I sent her mine. Have been waiting to get the address to send the seeds to.
I am sure I sent her a PM last night. If I didn't then I meant to. My head is like a bag o maggots these days. Lets hope that she has just been away for a few days and isn't poorly
Just to let everyone know, there will be a short intermission in the seed swap. JayB's hard drive has died so she hasn't been able to get online. Normal service will be resumed as soon as Mr Nice Computer Repair Man manages to deliver back a healthy PC!
Thank you Ceres, I think several of us were a little worried in case Jayb was poorly, so glad it's the puter & not Jayb ;D.
Phew..'only' the computer then. I'm sure she is feeling like pulling her hair out with it.. ::)
Perhaps we should send a get well soon card to the puter ;D ;D ;D. We do miss you Jayb ;D ;D ;D.

Thank you all for the kind thoughts.
Lol, my puter did indeed receive a get well soon 'card', which was most welcome and made me laugh out loud!
Thanks to Ceres for keeping folk updated, much appreciated.
Hopefully swap is back on track, thank you to Pansy P for your patients and generosity. Can't wait to read the clue ;D

PUMPKINLOVER!!!!!
You are too clever. It was a hard one to think of a clue for.
First of all glad that you are back JayB ;D ;D ;D
Oh................ that's so exciting. :D :D :D
Only my little brain cannot work out the clue - I'm ok with amour but it's the Pepon bit- I assumned that it was a type of pumpkin.
Googled it but no better off :-[. Someone help me out!!!!
Pumpkins belong to cucurbita pepo group.. ;)
Thank you. Mind you when I googled it there was something about "good looking" Ha Ha!
Wow that was quick, good clue Pansy ;D
I'm just doing a recheck of the list, I'll send it on soon as its done PL :)
References to pumpkins date back many centuries. The name pumpkin originated from the Greek word for "large melon" which is "pepon." "Pepon" was nasalized by the French into "pompon." The English changed "pompon" to "Pumpion."
Well I never ;D
QuotePumpkins belong to cucurbita pepo group
Just to be clever dicky but most pumpkins are not pepo but Curcurbita Maxima.
got the list Thanks JayB, and you guys for expanding my knowledge :D
will have a good look tonight when I am babysitting -ok he's nearly five BUT last time I baby sat was about 40 years ago. HELP!! ;D ;D ;
At least no nappies ;)
JayB Glad you are back x Chas
Pumpkinlover Enjoy the swap it's fantastic!!
X Chas
Sent my parcel off the JayB this morning.
The next clue is
"Some do some don't . It may be a pain"
Please humour me by taking at least a wee while to guess the answer ;D ;D ;D
Right dear..I don't have a clue what you are suggesting..but...my guess is Poolcue?
"some may play pool, some may not....cue maybe be a pain in .... :-X :o ;D ???
Sorry no ;)
Could it be Galina?(some girls do some girls don't)Don't get the pain bit though
goodlife
some of us do and some don't lead the 'good life'. But the last TV series was 'definitely' a pain to watch, unlike the original version. No 'maybe' about it ;D
No to either ;D
Sorry I am out this evening....
will check in when get home ;D
Digeroo Just a guess
roo is for kangaroo some dig some don't and some box (as in boxing) which could result in pain.
Best I can do
Didn't Digeroo already had her turn with swap...? ..but I don't mind double dip neither.. ;) ;D
My name did come up before but my computer had crashed so I could not take part at that time. So I have not had a turn yet.
But I cannot relate my name to the clue. I'm not very good at these cryptic clues.
Ok right name, but hey this is a gardening forum so relate the clue to gardening......
Must go should be on the M1 by now :D
I didn't have a clue who it was!! ;D ;D
X Chas
Ok then..."some do, some not"...=Dig..."it maybe a pain"=a roo ? Hm..gardening related.. :-\ Dig a row?..definately a pain.. ::)
Love it, Dig a row ;D
List has been updated and I'm just about to send it off. Next name will be drawn as soon as Digeroo's had time to make her choices :)
Getting harder to set clues the less people left in ;D
Just got the lists - wow. I shall be up all night trying to decide.
The dig bit was right, some are no dig, the pain bit was oooow-My back hurts :'( - might be from the digging ;)
I spent month originally digging my allotment, but I am now trying to go towards a no dig system. Back currently bearing up but the feet have gone on strike. ooooo.
I love it too can I change to Dig a Row? ;D

I've read to use kitchen roll to put the sorted and washed tomato seeds on then peel them off.
However I'm finding it very, very tedious- another seed swopper told me to use a china plate to dry them off for this reason.
What do you do?
Once fermented and rinsed, I drain briefly in a small sieve and then tip out onto paper or a paper plate. I think a saucer would do just fine, but I find it useful to write the variety name on the paper so I know whats what :)
I received Digeroo's seeds this weekend, lots of nice things :) Seed list received tonight, I'll hopefully get it sorted in the morning. I've got a couple of parcels ready to post and I hope to get them all off tomorrow.
Next person's name was also sent at the weekend, so thinking caps on ready ;D
I hope Pansy Potter dosen't mind me saying but I'd like to say a big thanks to her. She's fairly new to the forum, but what a generous and thoughtful person. She has sent a superb selection of seeds for us to share, although not needing any herself. What an A4A star ;D
I think Pansy was a lurker for a while ;D.
Next clue.
This was a great inspiration for my to take up growing my own.
GOODLIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

X Chas ENJOY!!!!
Oh dear my clue was far too easy.
I was trying to think of some clue which would involve Margo.
I'm back!! List is 'foraged' through..and it was FUN ;D But trying to find something to add that there is not already 'millions' was hard work.. ::)
I've got my list of wants and offers to send to Jayb and the 'ball' is rolling again.. ;) ;D
OH..one thing to "complain"..you would think that out of 3 pages of seeds listed..one particular variety of seeds that I 'need' wasn't there.. :o..so I have to make an order for just that one packet.. ::)..oh well... ;) ;D
Lol just got you lists, very nice and sooooo speedy thank you ;D
I'll draw the next name to send you, but I won't be ready to send on the list until I've put aside your seeds tomorrow, sorry.
Do tell what was your 'need' seed, maybe one of us can help?
Do tell what was your 'need' seed, maybe one of us can help?
:-[..I feel very cheeky now..after all that that amount of seeds on offer for swapping..
I meant to save some seed in summer..but never got round to it.. ::)..Courgette Striato D'Italia..common as muck..but my favourite.
And the next clue is...
"Apparatus" or sort but not for swimming.. ::)
..I've tried my best with this one...sorry.. :-\
PS..Jayb..carrots..yes please..
Poolcue!!!

Lol, that didn't take long ;D
Sorry I don't have any Striato D'Italia, but possibly similar Striato di Napoli and Romanesco, if they tempt.
Goodlife
Don't know if it's any help but premier_seeds_direct on Ebay sell them for 99p plus 59p postage. They are very good have bought lots from them.

I have received the lists and will have an interesting nights homework.Thank you very much.
You will definitely enjoy choosing your seeds from the list. Have a good night
X Chas
Recieved my seeds today (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-bounce015.gif) (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys.php)
Thankyou everyone, especially JayB for organizing!
I'm just being nosy...but what is the one variety of seeds you've picked/received from the swap that you are most excited about?
BTW..can't tell you mine yet..I forgot already what I wished for ::) ;D I can just about remember there was toms, beans, peas, TPS, some herbs, squash.
...who's tidied up my desk?...can't bloody find nothing.. >:(..I had my list on piece of paper..somewhere.. ::)
Let you know hopefully in a few days
It's got to be Sharks fin squash- just because of the film "Grow your Own" which I love- so much I've just bought it from Amazon- using the A4A link of course. :)
I hope you have a tree for it to grow up PL. It grows like a triffid ;D
A clue
Some jobs are partially exempt?
My most exciting is lots of Skagit Magic seed for my potato project.
Some jobs are partially exempt?
??? Well...I've wrote a list of names that has been drawn already....if my calculation is correct there is 4 left..but I don't have a faintest idea how this would fit to any of the names.. ???

Stevens706?
partially exempt sounds like tax exempt. Notice 706 is for partial tax exemption.

'Stevens' I can't make fit, so might be (yet again) barking up the wrong tree ;D
edit 2 minutes later
Duh of course: Steven Jobs of Apple :)
Galina you are correct.
It was very difficult to think of anything that was vaguely gardening related.
The folks on this site never cease to amaze me ;D
My goodness what a well thought out clue. Galina definitely gold stars for you, fantastic.
List will be on it's way shortly ;D
:o...(http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-gen053.gif) (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys.php)...well done for for both of you..I wouldn't never ever been able to solve of that nor do the clue...(http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-gen014.gif) (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys.php)
Poolcue - great clue I didn't recognise myself, Galina good job you are on the ball - thanks
I've received Stevens706 list and I've sent the name of the next person.
Stevens sent me the next clue
"The next person could be a young insect in charge of smooth seas."
Manics?...don't know why though.. ::) There is not much options left with names..and still I'm struggling with clues.. ;D
How about susiebelle Why? cos I like the name ;D ;D
X Chas
Could it be Galina? Gal = young girl ina ????????????
It's young insect though ;) (I thought the same thing then re-read the clue!!)
Grub??
Lol, a one in three chance of being right, but which one?
As a hint, Pumpkinlover guess is on the right track, if it were on a scale, she'd be slightly warm but far from hot!
GALINA= gal...young girl...gall.. insect....in.a.. ???..in.. na..navy? ??? ???
Smooth seas? Calm seas? Well Galina does mean 'calm'.
Is this about Greek mythology? The nereid nymph Galene is the goddess of calm seas and a nymph is an immature stage that hasn't undergone metamorphosis to become a full insect yet. I think, it might be me :) I hope so ;D
Yayyy, top form Galina ;D
Loved the clue. There is always some Greek mythology - was only a matter of time :D
The lists are simply fab, the choice is brilliant. Thank you JayB. I may be some time ............................... ;)
Have a great time and enjoy the list.
X Chas
Lol, Galina has sent me her list and also a Clue.
Although I know the next person, I can't get it from the clue so I'm off for a google :o
Was deadly nightshade partly to blame for the banshee wailing?
Sounds like lyrics for some song.....
But what one? ;D
Huh..do I really start to dig that one out.. ::)...I'm not even sure if it lyrics..Manic street preaches has some wacky lyrics..so suppose anything could be found in them.
Yes..my guess for the clue is manics... ???
Ahhhhh light bulb moment ;D
What a super Clue ;D

Spot on! Gold Star!
Belladonna is the botanical name for deadly nightshade.
Reiceived my goodybag this morning.. ;D...Thank you for you all..and Jayb!
Now who does origami seedpackets..?..they look fab..I just couldn't fold it back same way anymore after having quick peek inside to see the seeds.. ::) Oh..well..I just have to sit down when I have spare moment and study the folds so I can learn to them too.. ;)
I ask for while ago what was the most excating varity to receive..well..ummm..hmm..toms, bean, peas.. ::)..so much to choose from..BUT..I think it is the white sorgum for popping....or TPS..or... ::) ;D
THANK YOU>>>THANK YOU! ;D
Those are probably my packets. I learnt by looking at the folds on one someone sent me; it's quite easy.
My seeds have arrived safely - thanks again everyone especially Jayb
Has everybody had their chances now? All done and dusted?
Did you all get what you fancied? Anything really exciting?
I had lots of different things only reqested a couple of items as really didn't have a lot to swop (Well nothing interesting) but Jayb sent me lots of her own seeds to try which was really kind . Now I can't wait till spring !!
Thank you everyone have really enjoyed this .
x Chas
Well I got my spagna beans & broad beans express, that's the one that Chris likes. I can't remember what else I had but lots of goodies. I have a very senior mind ;D. I too cannot wait for Spring ;D. Will we all be sowing leeks soon. I haven't read the piece but in my Grow It magazine (courtesy os Tesco club card) we can sow leeks now.
Very enjoyable swap - thanks Jayb for all your hard work sorting it out. Right when is Spring?
One last stop left, a return to Brown thumb, as they missed the super additions made by Ceres and Stopp. Then I'll put the parcel on hold until the new Year, when if there are enough interested people, it can start off again.
The parcel has grown and developed amazingly with the generosity from all taking part. A big THANK YOU from me ;D
I've spotted a few things I would love to grow, one or two have gone to others but I'm sure there will be enough Danish Flag poppies to go around :). Hopefully I'll be able to choose a couple of varieties of beans and peas after Brown thumb's turn.

Name them please :) You never know there may be seconds available or the lucky recipients can in turn produce seeds in 2012 and put some by for you. I think you should have something resembling a proper turn yourself after all you have put into this super swap. We need to know JayB :)
I think you should have something resembling a proper turn yourself after all you have put into this super swap.
Or rather..dip you 'fingers in pot' when something interesting comes along.. ;)
Is this going to be never ending swap? ;D..Jayb you've got yourself job for the life.. ;D
If the amount of seeds and varieties keep increasing every swap, it will soon become the new seed bank for the UK ;D
been off air for a while came back on last night ::)hope jayb has had a dip and what a list still remaining i too may wait until after xmas if thats ok with everyone xsue
and also i think jayb should have first pick when anything she Fancy's comes along as with out your organizing we wouldn't be having ours
;D, not sure that sounds very fair, but look forward to having a turn soon, once brown thumb has chosen.
Thanks Galina, although I've just made a rough grow list for next year :o between the seed circle, swaps and some recent purchases I'm already stuck for space ;D
I've been playing around with making the seed list more user friendly and easier for me to keep the list updated and shared. Hopefully be able to try new format out for a tomato swap in Jan, if enough people fancy joining in.
Since Jayb has been the organiser I think that she ought to have first refusal of anything that arrives in the swap.

Go on Jay b you know you want to ;D
Jayb
Thanks I received my parcel today.Fortunately I have got 3 to 4 months to work out where everything is to be placed on the allotment as there were so many goodies.I am going to be googling all over the festive period to get everything properly organised. That's my first New Years resolution.
Jayb
You should definitely have first choice of anything I'm sure there isn't anyone who
wouldn't want you to
X Chas
I've started a new page to make listing and viewing easier, I'm going to update the seed list items before too long and then take a turn Yaayyyyyyyyy ;D.
I'm sure I've got one or two packets over :o If anyone is missing any seeds in their parcel pm me :P
