Title: turnip tops
Post by: plotstoeat on September 24, 2011, 13:52:26
I know turnip tops can be cooked and used as greens but has anyone tried them raw in salads. I have just thinned some that I am growing in the greenhouse and they look just like rocket. No hairiness at all.

Hi Jane. Did you try them raw? I tasted one and I thought it was too strong a flavour. I have so many nice salads just now, I don't need them. I also have some nice nastertium leaves that have a peppery taste. It's just a different world to the supermarket offerings, isn't it?

x Ken

Hi Ken, I agree they were too strong to have raw & quite tough to chew so I will just carry on cooking with them instead. I like them added to stir fries as well as steamed. I have a bed of turnips that havent produced much except leaves because they were sown when we had daily huge downpours for weeks so all the growth went into the leaves ::)so glad I love to eat the greens! x jane
