Not sure if anyone is going to be interested in this....
We haven't had a seed swap for quite a while... a few problems were encountered, parcels going awol etc perhaps putting people off. I have loved taking part in seed swaps and it seems such a shame for others not to be enjoying them too.
Sooooo I wondered about a virtual mixed seed parcel folk can make requests from?
I'm afraid not quite the same excitement as when postie comes knocking on the door lugging that gert big parcel. But it might just work out.
If you are interested add your name to the thread and I'll get started on a list of seeds.
Sounds interesting Jayb - please put me down
(http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-fc/hiya.gif) (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys.php)... ;D
This is ideal opportunity for those spare seeds that I don't have enough for that many heads like seed saving circle needs.
I keep saying myself 'don't be greedy'.. (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-angelic002.gif) (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys.php)...BUT..the little devil in me (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-devil10.gif) (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys.php) just wants to "share"... ;) (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-angelic006.gif) (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys.php)
So...if it goes ahead..count me in! (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-dance001.gif) (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys.php) Yohoo..fun ahead!!
put me down, sounds like a good idea :)
Please put me down sounds like a good scheme.
I loved the swap parcel idea but some people did not see it as a swap and put rather less in than they took out.
How are you going to operate it.
How will it work? Do we send you our contribution to the parcel with and SAE for what we would like back? That would be a lot of work for whoever holds the parcel.
But please include me.
I would like to join please
Please may I Miss ;) ;D.
PS I don't have many seeds ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
I would like to put my name down
All Welcome ;D
How will it work? Good question. I'm hoping not too much work as everyone will take turns as if it were travelling around. (I must be bonkers 'cos I'm thinking of doing something similar with a tomato one maybe November time and possibly a beans and peas in the New year if this works ok :o)
I've got quite a few spare packets to start it off. Some I've bought and not used, others I've had as freebies, some I've been given or are from swaps. I'll also add in some seeds I've saved. I can't use them all and it's nice to be able to pass them on to be grown and enjoyed. Some packs are opened others not.
If anyone wants to join in, please be fair to all taking part and only swap viable seeds with a decent date. Make sure seeds are in packets and clearly labelled with variety and sow by date or when saved.
When we have enough people to get it started, I'll start drawing names for a running order. When we start I'll probably open a new thread and post a clue to the identity of the first participant and as soon as it is guessed I'll send them the 'What's in the parcel list', so content is kept a bit of a surprise. Seeds will be a selection all sorts.
What to do?
When it is your turn make your requests and what you are offering on this thread. It is fine if you request 1 or 20+, just try and swap like for like, eg amount of varieties and size of packet.
Send in your seeds with a Stamped Self Addressed envelope (or label and stamps if you want to reuse the one envelope), I'll leave it to you to ensure it is large enough with adequate postage for your request (eg peas beans etc will be bulkier and weigh more, if in doubt you can include spare stamps and if not needed they will be returned in your parcel.)
When your envelope is received by me, I'll update the seed list with your goodies and pop your chosen seeds back in the post to you. I'll also let you know the name of the next person and it will be up to you to think of a clue ;D
I'll keep the parcel topped up if it starts to run low! Hopefully not as it is a swap with new seeds being added.
This swap is open to all forum members, new and old. But hey if you have never posted there's no rush, I think it would be a shame to make it in your first few posts!
Can I play too - pretty please?
Sounds great fun. yes please JayB
Definitely. While taking out without replacing is clearly out of order, we've also had some complaints which were a bit unrealistic. Not everyone is going to have rare and interesting varieties to put in, so I think we should accept that some will have to add common commercial varieties. Hopefully everyone involved will be a little more tolerant than some have been in the past!
In the hat (a new beanie for winter!) waiting to be drawn we have;
Stevens706
Goodlife
Manicscousers
Digeroo
Ellen K
Pansy Potter
Grannyjanny
Poolcue
Lottie Lou
Galina
Robert B
Some good points, and I hope so, Robert. This is meant as a general interest swap, mixed with a bit of fun and sharing. If it is not to someones taste or expectation they don't have to choose anything, they can go shopping instead ;D I think it is good to remember we are all on different levels in our gardening evolution! As I said in my previous post be fair and I'll add play nicely :)
Said hat :P
Whooaa...this post has progressed quickly..I've only been 'away' for couple of hours and names been drawn already.. :o ..no messing about.. ;D Any seeds left in swap..? ;)
I just have to admire Jayb's determination and energy...or are you short of jobs in lottie?
Anyway..thanks for bringing some excitement here..(http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-happy088.gif) (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys.php)
May I join in too please
X CHAS
I'm going to watch (if that's OK) from the sidelines.. Looks very interesting.

Can I just donate a few to the seed swap? Don't want anything in return unless there's something obscure I want to try in the parcel :P
Got plenty of seeds that will need sowing for 2012/2013 date, still waiting for an allotment and bulk buy every year in hope :-[
Sharon T

I think I may be psychic, I ordered 200 small bags yesterday morning ;) ;D.
Thanks for giving your time to do this for us Jayb
;D Not drawn yet, just into the hat along with Luckycharlie and Brown thumb.
Stopp thank you, a lovely thought to donate some seeds to the swap :) But why don't you join in anyway, you can still donate the seeds and you might just spot what you are after ;D
Aden R, you are welcome to watch, but you might find it more fun to join in?
Thank you Pansy, nice to see a new name joining in :)

;D no, just writting your name on a piece of paper
Any one interested in a few flower seeds too?
I've some gorgeous solid purple and purple and white lupins seeds I've saved (not sure if they will breed true, hopefully purples though) no other lupins in the garden
Also a gorgeous red poppy, it was a real treat this year and the only one in my garden flowering at the time, but you never know where those bees have been!
I am rubbish at growing flowers but next year I am going to try to grow Laurentia - got a packet of blue "avant garde" from the evil empire - and more poppies. I was given a packet of Shirley Poppies from an Aldi multipack and they were a lovely mix of singles and doubles. Although bees aren't supposed to go for the doubles, every one seemed to have a bee's bum sticking out of it whenever I looked.
So in summary, YES!

I am so very tempted especially having seen those beautiful lupins and poppies!! :)
I am a carer for two elderly people so spare time is pretty scarce and I don't want to let anyone down... but I'm pretty sure I have some spare seed that might interest someone. I'll make an effort to sort through my boxes and get back to you asp.
My hand is half up for now (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-green/greensmilies-012.gif) (http://www.greensmilies.com) but please don't delay on my account.
Looks very exciting ;D
If spare I would love a few purple lupin seeds please ;D.
Now that you mentioned about flowers..I've got tons of poppy heads in allotment..those pink frilly ones in my avatar... ;D..I could go and collect some if anybody is in 'need'.
Is it only seeds, I have echinacea (cone flower) roots and some sweet cicely, red and white bleeding heart..maybe I should start another thread as they will be spring :)
I'm going to keep watching.... so, thanks very much Jayb but I don't want to hold everyone up, so this time round it's a "would love to but won't"
Thank you. :)
Enjoy yourselves everyone....... what a lovely idea!!! (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-forum/nicethread.gif) (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys.php)
Great I'll take that as a yes for flowers too ;D
Your poppies sound beautiful G'life, yes get some saved, 'Goodies Pink Poppies' could be swapped for years to come :)

They sound super Manics, but I think roots unless dormant and easily stored/transported could be problamatic. I think as you say another thread for them may be better.
Aden thanks for being so thoughtful, please jump in if you find you are able :)
...when do we start.. ;D ;D
Do we want/need/should put something here for everybody to see about the seeds what we offer.. ???
Would anybody be interested small=tiny garlic cloves..Polish hardneck? They are only first year cloves..grown from the pips..size of a french bean seed.
So they will take another couple of year before you would get normal size bulbs.
I just thought to offer as you find it hard to find them over here..???
Nearly there, list has taken longer than I thought, but we will be starting some time over the weekend ;D

I thought it might be more interesting and fun for people to see what was coming in and going out. You don't like the idea?
You don't like the idea
?...oh I do...just wondered if its all on show... ;)
All the seed in the main part are 2012+ in date or equivalent.
When I was sorting through I found I also had seeds whose date is up this year and those I've listed separately at the end of the list along with a few pre 2011, although some of these are because there because the date has been ripped off ::)
No need to swap anything back for these, just take your pick if you wish.
So are we sending you the seed and a stamped addressed return envelope or how is it going to work?

Yes, here's an earlier post which hopefully should give you a better idea.

I'm only gong to reveal the 'Master List' to whoever's turn it is. I'll update it with what is available as we go along. It will be much easier for me to keep it as a document and pm it as we can't update posts after about 30 mins. Hopefully it will give a little bit of interest and surprise this way ;D
I just love this site and the lovely generous people here.
Two lots of big thanks;
First up is Stopp, who is donating spare seed to the swap, ;D
and
Ceres who is going to be sending in loads of lovely seeds for everyone to share ;D
Hip hip ;D
How kind of them............ :)
Let us not forget Jeannine who has been giving away seed on A4A for years :)
