Title: Bean id
Post by: goodlife on September 18, 2011, 17:54:13
Itd been one of those years that when it comes down to labeling different varieties, I've been either drunk, brain damaged or somebody is playing pranks with me.. ::) I've got few that require naming.
One of my labels says Prelude ???. Since the seeds have come from somebody over here..would you who have grown them let me know what do the beans look like. Does the beans have any distinctive markings.
Usually I save all packets..but can I find this particular one.. ::)
I know foxes played with few of my pea labels..so I suspect they might have been the culprits.

Not one I've grown. I had a brief look and it seems to be a green podded dwarf, nothing standing out from a picture, although it may have white flowers if it is not a generic picture/packet. Hopefully someone will be able to say what colour seeds.

more beans with mixed up/lost labels..any idea what these might be.
All these are dwarf..A & B are just normal looking green podded shelling beans. A has more burgundy coloured markings. B has maroon/browny coloured markings.
C is totally different . Dwarf..pods slender, round pencil pod shaped pods with fine dark streaks all over. I hope the seeds show their markings in photos.. They are dark blue/black and grey mottled.
I've got one 'spare' label that I've found..Soldier..?
HEEELLP!  ::)

A looks like Soldier
C looks like Triompe de Farcy [scuse the spelling]

B - hmmm.....Mayflower?

Thanks for that..I've been wondering about the A being soldier..
B..can't be mayflower..its climber and these seeds are larger than them..I didn't sow them this year so I did have a chance to compare them.
C...name doesn't ring any bells..but I'll have a google..all these are grown from swap seeds from members here so I hope somebody will recognize what I've been sent.. ;D ::)
Next year I shall not rely on labels only..I WILL make a map and mark what goes where..just in case labels go walkies..::)

pigs will fly..they do..don't they?
C beans look rather different to others I have..and I was rather suprised when I opened the pods..I wonder if it is cross pollinated ...I'm sure I would have remembered them looking like that when I was sowing them :-\
Does anybody grow Dragon's tongue beans?..I wonder what their seeds look like? Pod look similar to C's.
