My old stick blender has cracked so I'm looking for a new one.
The trouble is there are so many to choose fromm :o
I basically blend soups and in summer months semi frozen berries for smoothies.
I think perhaps some of the berries this year were more frozen then "semi" hence the crack ;)
I don't want to spend a fortune but neither do I want something cheap that doesn't do the job .I guess many of you folk blend soups e.t.c. which ones do you use.
ps I'm avoiding jug blender/smoothie makers as my cupboards bulge with gadgets already ;)
Uhh..that is difficult one..mine is Braun..about 30 yrs old.. ;D But its been really good one. If I were to start look one for now..I think I would start from same brand again. I just wonder how well they are made now.. ::)
Mine was one of first ones on market in Finland when they came into shops..bought it for my mother for Christmas.. ;D She never used it and some years after that I left home and took it with me and its been through all these years.
I propably would look metal one this time. These plastic ones gets stained after while.
Have to admit we went for the expensive one, a Bamix, after our son asked for this one for Christmas. I was so impressed with all the reviews, and what you could do with it, that we bought one for ourselves as well. I don't regret it as I know it will last and it does all I ask of it. I've never had a cheaper one, so I can't compare it.
It also does very good whipped 'cream' from skimmed milk, and makes beautiful mayonnaise in seconds.
Vote number 2 for the Bamix ;D Love mine, it's used every day. We blend frozen fruit to make smoothies most mornings, and it does this with ease. I know it's not cheap, but I originally bought one for half the price (when I really wanted this one) but it only lasted a couple of years. My Bamix also has a 10 year guarantee, which was great peace of mind when buying it :)
I've got one of these http://www.amazon.co.uk/Wahl-Blender-Chopper-Attachment-ZX411/dp/B0000C6ZMX
Is pretty heavy duty and comes with a wall bracket which is very handy, does everything I need it to.
Thanks for the advice ,I have to say I'm leaning towards a Bamix but struggling to justify the cost, also there seems to be so many different models.
Ours cost under 10.00 from argos, nearly 2 years ago,I blend thick soups and pizza sauces with it and it works fine. :)
maybe this will do for the time being

Mine's a Russell Hobbs (Marco Pierre White version) - had couple of years, pretty efficient and doesn't take up too much space - quite cheap at the time from Dyas.
I had a cheapo cordless stick blender which was just great; particularly as there was no flex to drag across the hob. Not sure of the make but it was just 9.99 from TJ Hughes about 5 years ago.
The only down side was that the business end was plastic and after heavy use for soup in hot pans, it became slighly mishapen. (My fault for pressing down on one edge). This meant that it lost some of it's efficiency. Worth thinking about when buying a cheapo.
My latest one was the James Martin one with a metal business end. Looked good for 14.99. Used it twice and the click system to attach the two ends together failed.
I now have my money back, so I too will be looking for a new one.
Although why you would need to blend sticks is beyond me.

Aah, but you should see some of the 'missed' french beans that I still try to put into soup. ;D ;D
Don't know if this helps ;D

thanks manics might pop and have a look.
I'm still hankering after a Bamix 'tho ;)
I had a Braun but it gave up the ghost after about 10 years so I now have a Moulinex. It does have one good feature - the blending end screws off and you can put it in the dishwasher! woo hoo! i don't expect it to last as long as a Bamix (which are really popular in Australia!) but it does teh trick and was pretty cheap, under 20 euros I seem to recall/.

Thanks, I'll have a look next week. Have to say though, I 'm a bit nervous of Neto/Lidl/Aldi stuff now. The James Martin one that broke was from Netto.
Have just returned from the shops with a Breville cordless from Argos. £60 was a bit more than I wanted to pay, but I am so much happier without the trailing cord in the kitchen. It just sits on the work surface, ready to grab and use in a pan on the hob.
I console myself with the knowledge that I got a chest freezer on ebay for just £60 yesterday; a second one for gluts and supermarket bargains.

Popped in and bought one today Manics, thanks it seems like a sturdy little number 'tho haven't tried it yet
Don't get one with slots in the head, like my Braun - food jams in them.
A downside of some is that they splash in shallow liquid.
Are you busy cooking - blending home-made soup perhaps? ;)
I've made leek & potato & spicy butternut soups - butternut one was delish

Yes - Leek & Potato last night!
