I think it is brilliant. Not intended to show off here but we were lucky enough to have someone on our site who got us Plastic pallets!!! we put in the shady area and hope that they last for years :)

Ps -we are dedicated skip grovellers. Neighbour had a load of metal grid in a week ago. We put a note through the door to ask but in the meantime the scrap van came round and pinched the lot ???

No not sad at all.

This is sad.

At work we overlook a building site.  I and two of my work mates have allotments.  When the wood formers are taken away after the concrete cures we moan as we see much wood and chip board thrown into skips for recycling.  We have tried to plan how to get hold of it and take it home.  I don't think they will allow me on the train with that much chip board.  One mate cycles to work so he is really b***ered.

That is sad Bill Door ;D

However on the plus side when OH was at work the wood used for shuttering was piled up and burnt :'(

Except for what he could manage to salvage- in the interest of the environment of course ;)

We get regular supplies of pallets from the builders' yard next door. It's cheaper for them to load a hundred or so on a lorry and dump them in our car park than it is to sort through, return the undamaged ones and destroy the broken ones.

And old scaffolding boards. And bark chippings from a local tree surgeon. And old water tanks from a couple of plumbers.

What's sad??

I came home from work with a wooden packing case 5'x5' and 4'x6'' high, it is now my compost bin and is holding all my waste from last year and this year, :)

I can't get hold of scaffold boards here so we went and bought 8 roofing beams to renew the surrounds of our raised beds.  We've sealed them with a protective coat and they should last at least 25 years so that's less than €10 a year.  The last lot were just pine planks treated with Cuprinol and they lasted 10 years.

I can get pallets though and have just stacked 5 to build Insect Towers to encourage pollinators and other beneficial insects to move in.  We've had so few butterflies this year and bees, ladybirds and hoverflies need all the help they can get.
