Just a quick plug for our only Open Day this year, next Sunday 11th September 11am-5pm.
Part of the 'yellow book' National Garden Scheme, entry fees (£3 adults, kids free) all go to the NGS charities, so for a good cause as well ;D.
We will are also having our annual show on the same day, so there will be plenty to see, plus the produce stall and the famous tea tent. Fingers crossed for good weather again!
Come along and see Saddad's and OH's lovely plots and Deb P's shed 'in the flesh'! Plots are very diverse and there is the apiary plot and wildlife area that has been transformed this year as well. I'm not on the Committe now so will hopefully be around on my plot more this year apart from a spell on the tea tent!
Link to LLAA website for more details: http://www.littleoverlaneallotments.org.uk/
We will be around too... ;D
Bump
I have marked this on my calendar... ;) Get the kettle on...and biggest slice of the cake is reserved.. ;D
The Sunflowers are almost as good as in that pic on the left!! :)
Sorry, David and Deb, this sunday were off to a fundraising in memoriam of a friend's daughter .
Fair enough...
it isn't compulsory... yet! ;D
Hope the weather picks up for the weekend! :-X
Fingers crossed for you, I doubt will make it as already doing things
And will there be samosas? :D
Yes, the samosas are on order, will be cooked freshly for us on the morning.....yummy! ;D
I'm going to be busy potting up some of my strawberry runners for the plant stall, should have some Marshmello, Late Cambridge Pine and Gariguette, possibly some Marshmarvel and Amelia too. I'm also considering pruning my willows and putting together some cutting bundles so folk can do their own fedges etc., not sure if there would be the interest but worth a try? ???
Bump...
glad I'm not on the committee as tonight is a bad night for a "meeting"! :-X
Bump
I've been down to my plot today tidying up for Sunday....still plenty to do though! The strawberry runners are all potted up, I'm hoping it's a bit dryer tomorrow so I can finish the weeding and just do some fun tarting up bits...... ;D
We did some tidying at the weekend... suppose I should go out and do some to avoid "letting the side down"... wonder how the Sunflowers are doing after those strong winds... :-X
Bump.... did I mention our Open Day on Sunday? :P
Spent the moning weeding, pruning and realising how much I still have to do before Sunday! Must give the shed a sweep out too....I'll have to get some biscuits in just in case it rains and I end up sitting in it most of the day! ;D
May be having a "Poly Tunnel" Opening party too... made the doors and frames yesterday... hope to get them hung and the skin on today... :)
Well..if you don't get it done today..we'll come tomorrow and give you hand.. ;) But that means proper tunnel 'warming' party then.. ;D I'll try not to dance on staging/tables... ;D
Did somebody mention selling strawberry plants?
I've potted up about 10 packs of 6 strawberry plants for the plant sale, there are still some left on my plants though so if we sell out early you can always pop down to my plot and I will sort you some out if you are visiting ...
Have you got a bottle of champers to hit the polytunnel with then David...oh no, it will have to be beer for you (all that lastose...) I'll have to drink all the fizz then! ;D
I'm starting to get rather interested of your plant stall.. ;)..not that I need anything..but bit of browsing doesn't hurt.. ;) I'll get OH to carry the wallet and shopping bag.. ;D
Deb did and we have a few spares... :)
OK you talked me in to it.
I would love to see your show, is that in the afternoon?
It should be "on display" from 11am... but judging isn't until later... :)
I've just come back..and I must say..it all looked very tidy indeed..
Beautiful site...lots and lots of fruit trees..plenty of flowers and friendly atmosphere.
BUT..who ever made the samosas..those were worth of trip on its own.. ;D..and the cakes.. ;D
Saddads sunflowers were still up and looking good..Debs beauuutiful shed was still up and looking good..too.. ;D
Nice to put some faces on the names.
I never got round to ask...where have all those lovely old tools come from that was on display in 'tea room'?
Must have seen you, I'm just back too....
Thanks Deb for the cordon tutorial. I will do it!
I'm just back too and really enjoyed it.
The gardens looked great - you see a lot even of the gardens which weren't open.
Good to meet Deb P and Saddad.
Managed to tag allong on a tour by a chappie with a big plot at the far end which was interesting.
Had 2 samosas.
And 2 trays of strawberry plants.
All good, thank you.
Must have seen you, I'm just back too....
;D I would not be surprised if we have even talked to each other..I rattle with anybody and everybody.. :-X While we were wondering around I kept staring people... ;D..just in case I would recognize anybody from photos we send here.. ;D
Glad you all had a good time, weather ok up here -was it there?
Do I remember you have another day in the spring?
It would have been nice to meet a few more A4A'ers, but I was at my Alpine meeting :-[
There will be a plant sale in May ... even if it's not for the NGS... :)
Glad you all had a good time, I take it the weather held out. ;D
Yep... it only spat out a couple of times... and not too windy... :)
We had a lovely time too. I brought Mum and she thoroughly enjoyed herself. The competition table was very impressive with some beautiful flower entries. We couldn`t get down to the end of the site because Mum was getting tired but the teashop was wonderful so we had a relaxing tea and gateau break.
Looking forward to next year. Thank you to all of you who worked so hard! :)
Great to meet some fellow A4Aers.....it really is a treat to meet you all, some of you are in danger of becoming regulars! I now have a stonking dehydration headache from not drinking enough and talking too much all of yesterday! ::)
Really enjoyed the day, I won a few first prizes in the show as well, mostly for my top fruit (grown on the aforementioned condon trees) so that was a nice bonus. My son Cam came along and actually helped a lot this time instead of tolerating the day, I had him digging up the last of my potatoes and harvesting sweetcorn which kept him amused and he really enjoyed chatting to visitors as well, proud of himself for remembering names of some varieties.
The famous samosas went down a storm as usual, I went up to buy some at about 1pm and they had long gone..... :'( luckily there was some carrot cake let to cheer me up! ;D
