Title: info on black sheeting please
Post by: tomatoada on September 03, 2011, 20:14:39
I am considering buying a roll of black polythene sheeting from ebay.  20mx2m   125mu   £23-99.   Free delivery.
Can someone tell if this sounds ok?  What does the 125mu mean?
I want to cover some spare ground on my plot.  Thanks.

Hi there,
125mu is the thickness of the sheet measured in microns. Not sure if it's a good deal or not having never brought any. Have you checked that it's suitable for sunlight. Some plastic is not ultra violet light stable and will become brittle after a few years. Try this site. www.aquatics-warehouse.co.uk
Sorry could not find a link for this site. If my maths is any good (iv'e had a couple of beers :P) your measurements come to about £19.50, not sure about delivery

Hi Tomatoada

This site
http://discountbuildsupplies.co.uk/shopdisplayproducts.asp?id=955&cat=Black+Polythene+Sheeting+125mu+500+Gauge

seems to be offering a better deal if you can buy from them.

Agree with spudly on the 125mu and the sunlight.

best wishes

Bill

Silage sheet is the stuff to buy, its practically indestructible, apart from being UV proof, its also resistant to manure and urine. Farmers use it to cover silage, but it comes in cut sheets, not rolls.  The problem with bog standard plastic is a lot of it has to be biodegradable these days.

You might have to shop around tho
