Title: Rhubarb and asparagus - question on soil preparation
Post by: newspud9 on September 02, 2011, 21:48:27
Just cleared space so I can finally start (best time?) some rhubarb and asparagus.  The soil has a neutral pH and very good structure.  I dont know whether to leave it as is, or add anything to it for eventual planting....and if I do need to add something, whether I can do the same for both parts as they are adjacent so makes sense to do it in one go.
Any other tips for growing these two would be most welcome.

many thanks for all responses.

Plant rhubarb now, asparagus in April. Give the rhubarb plenty of space, and feed it well; I use industrial quantities of rotted down grass cuttings, and clumps grow three feet high and six feet across.

We are going to give an autumn planting of asparagus a crack.

Mucho manure in the bottom of trenches for both asparagus and rhubarb is our approach, followed by more manure every year on the rhubarb, and sand and compost plus seaweed compost for the asparagus every year
