Title: Petrol big shock on price
Post by: Digeroo on August 29, 2011, 17:52:29
I went off with a gallon plastic can to get petrol for the mover.  It cost me £8.35.  I can still remember my mother complaining about paying £1 for four gallons to fill up the mini.

Actually slightly bigger than a gallon.

We had one of the first batch of minis.  Pity my mother sold it would be worth a fortune now.

The front seats were more like deck chairs.  Did not have a key to start.

Theres a point in your life when you notice the price of petrol and the price of beer. When I was a lad it was about 18 years old.

So the first time I noticed the price of petrol it was 3/6d a gallon, and then a bit later i noticed beer was 24p a pint.

You would never have imagined then 40 years later you would be paying £6 10s for a gallon of petrol, and £3 for a pint of beer. I was only an apprentice earning £6 a week then.

I remember getting pissed one saturday night with three mates (4 pints of lager = £1 a round), then on our way home (years before breathalysers) somone said 'Lets go to Blackpool". So we all chipped in  5/- each for petrol and drove to Blackpool. I still remember lying on the sand dunes at Fleetwood, watching the sunrise over the B&B's, still pissed............

Thoses were the days.........
