Title: Really weird!
Post by: Grandma on August 25, 2011, 17:44:33
All my Oriental poppies get cut right down after flowering and often produce a smaller, second flush from now until well into autumn. This one was just an ordinary flower - but what do you make of the seed pod???

There is a normal-sized seed pod in the middle but it is surrounded by a ring of sixteen smaller pods!  :o In all my years of poppy growing I've never seen anything like it - have you?

I haven't seen it on poppies ... but you often get it in Pot Marigolds... "Hens and Chickens"  :)

No - it does look odd.  Are you going to save the seed and see what the next generation looks like?

No, BarriedaleNick I won't be saving the seed: the Orental poppies are perennials - but I'll keep an eye on that particular one next year!
