I can recommend 'Maddies Chickens'.

Hi Clackvalve,
I'm not sure if you've thought of it, but have you considered some ex-battery hens? They don't look great to start with but mine have always recovered quickly and laid well. They do seem to go off lay a little more easily and produce eggs of various shapes but mine are much more friendly than my hybrid girls.
They usually cost around £3 a bird, which is a lot less than I paid for my hybrids and there are loads of different people so rescues are pretty frequent as well.
