You can get sungold direct from Tozer for £5.35 for 50 which brings down the price somewhat if you can find several people to join in. Since they last sometime worth buying in bulk except I can never find all the packets the following year when I buy bulk packs.
At this price they are 10.1p each as opposed to T&M price of 29.9p.
So T&M could buy 1000 seeds at £71(price of tozer website) and sell them for £299.
Since T&M presumably buy them in considerable bulk presume they get them even cheaper you can get some idea of the mark up.
I always manage to get some half price so have not paid full price for years.
Somebody is feeling 'sharp' this morning.. ;D Can't do that sort of calculations before having a barrell full of coffee into system first.. ;D
Yes..suppose we have to pay for it if we want only few seeds.. ::)..must be big job counting all the few seeds per packet..and they still get it wrong.. ::)
I like buying bulk things like sweetcorn from Tozer..trouble with many other veg is that you never get through a packet..even the smallest quantity they sell..in allotment use...well I don't.
And getting fellow growers to share the cost of packet is harder than you thing,,they don't mind getting it for free.. ::)
I tried other year to go around lottie and get group together for bulk order..but it failed..couldn't get through their thick skulls that the seeds are the same without fancy packet and well named seed company's name on it.. ::)
Another morning rant...its starting well.. ;D
I am well aware that people like to do their own thing. I am not sure many of the people on our site grow lots of specialist things from seed.
I have been quite pleased with the seeds I have got direct from Tozer I am not sure that the seeds improve even in their packets in the garden centres where the temperatures vary quite often.
So far Tozer's inability to count has worked in my favour while T&M for example in my experience are becoming increasingly lacking in seeds in their packets.
Quite a few of the packets on T&M half price offers are generic packets. How do I know what I am growing if there is no pic on the pac?
I'm off to Wyevale... as soon as they take the seeds "off the shelf"... ;D
