PUMPKIN MARINA DI CHIOGGIA
Aha - but would they have sent them in a brown envelope with the cut-out applied?
I do not claim expertise but it does not look exactly like mariana de chiogga.
I find that has some lighter colours in flecks and is knobblier usually, but can see some similarity
It might be a Green Hokkaido or if it gives a very large fruit perhaps a Queensland Blue? Marina di Chioiggia has a very warty skin.
Yes it could be a Qld Blue or possibly a Jarrahdale. They are nice pumpkins so enjoy them!
I'm SURE one of you out there gave them to us a while ago.
Tim, it is not a Jarradale or a Marina di Chioggia ir a Queensland Blue all are different.
I am fairly confident iit is one of the Japonica group especially as it is described as a pumpkin and many of the Japs are, they usually have black in their name, like butternuts there are several varieties all similar I think it is a Futtsu.. aka black, early black, grey black, black rinded etc . If it is then it should grow to about 3 lbs, dense yelloe flesh, sweet and dry, moschata group.
XX Jeannine
I hate to contradict the pumpkin queen ;D but it looks like the marina di chioggia I grow - mine have never made it to warty greatness. some have even been quite smooth.
But I didn't give you the seeds, Tim, so I can't help there! ;D
I didn't give you the seeds either, but the picture looks a bit like one of my Japanese ones - Black Futsu, I could take a pic if it helps Tim?
I'll try anything once!!
ok - I'll take one later or tomorrow :)
!066, It is a type of Black Futsu, I had already said that LOL
Sorry but it is not only the lack of bumps that stops it being Marina. it is the shape, the colour and the description.
Tim, it is a good eating one.
XX Jeannine
Jeannine it was a cobination of your mention of Japanese pumpkins and my visit up to the plot today. And mine does look like the one on the seed packet. But having said that do some of them change colour when ripe? I'm sure I've seen pictures of creamy coloured Futsu. But then that could be confusing the matter ;D
My black futsu went a deep rust brown during storage - good eating but fiddly to peel because of the ridging. The shape of mine was rather more squarish than the one in Tim's picture.

1, Black Futsu
2, A variety of Kabocha there are loads
as we have no idea of size and the picture is not great,, a variety of Kabocha is a possibility but I don't know one that has black in it's name
oooo we do like a good pumpkin mystery on A4A :D
Mine looks like Jeannine's number 1 picture
was going to post a photo, but don't seem to have the option......
Ha! My subscription had run out ::)
