Hi, I need your help, I have friengs going over to UK in a couple of weeks and we need info on good places to go..they fancy travelling a bit and taking in, Yorkshire , Derbyshire, they are looking for accomodation as a base as they have an eight year old and a baby..they also fancy Whitby.
Does anyone have any ideas of great places in these areas or family accomodation, they will be in a car.
Are there any festivals etc around during Aug.early September, they are gardenets by the way, but need good kids stuff too.
I wondered about self catering in Whitby..
Or good B&B around., they have also indicated they would like a peek at Wales.
Not much time but would appreciate your help.
Is there anyone who would offer to give them a UK lottie tour?

Drag 'em up a few of the quieter dales in the north Yorks moors. 8) Then drag 'em over the hump to the Lake District. After that Wales will be a let down ! ! :o !Cheers, Tony.
Shame they are not coming down South, loads to do on the coast :)
hows about a day in Southport shopping, then off to the lakes for a few days stay at the lakeside hotel.
How lovely
I have stayed at a fab guest house in whitby called autumn leaves. Its accross the road from the whitby museum. about a ten minute walk to the beach but quite high up in the town. Hawes is a lovely village to stay in Yorkshire very close to country and tea shops lots of b&bs
There is an RHS garden Harlow Carr in Yorkshire, Scampston Hall at Malton is a massive walled garden (not open mondays) Helmsley walled garden Helmsly North Yorkshire, Wentworth castle gardens at stainborough barnesley (south yorkshire - dahlias and a castle!
Have to have a think about where else to go.
Derbyshire peak district is lovely there are castle and caves at Castleton, the plague village at Eyam .
Wanders of to think

We had great fun with the children on the North Yorkshire Steam railway, including visiting Goatland village which is a film set.
Witby coastline is disappearing and there are bits of lost houses on the beach. Quite a sobering sight and gave us and the kids a lot to talk about.
A good holiday. Thanks for bringing back the memories.
It is Folk Week in Whitby 20th to 26th Aug. http://www.whitbyfolk.co.uk/ (http://www.whitbyfolk.co.uk/) The town will be full and B&B will be hard to find. It is very English and worth having a day there. I shall be there at some time after I have finished performing in at a festival in Leicester.
Wonderful links and info, thank you and plaease keep them coming I am passing them all on.

There is good old Chatswoth house..they've got country fair in Septemter. Place is big and family can easily spend a day. There is something for for everybody to see and neighbouring villages have loads of B&B's if they day should stretch too long or they would like to see more.

How about the wonderfull city of YORK, great museum there also a castle you can walk up the steps to get a lovely view of YORK , they can walk round the wall the children would love that. York minster is fabulous one of my favourite places YORK, they would not be disappointed.

How about our Summer Fayre on Saturday August 20th? :D
Thank you again, York in definitely on the list, the others are in the works she was thrilled when I phoned last night about walled gardens and Whitby week especially. Flamingoland seems to be a chance for the young man too.
Squash the Summer Fayre sound like an ideal one especially as he is on the exec of our gardens, he would love that, I am not sure if the area is a bit out of range though. I guess it depends on which way they decide to go but I will give them the details..
They are thinking a base somewhere for several days, then a jump to another area and another base rather than travelling and new B&B s because of the young baby.
Anyone know anything about Heartbeat country or James Herriots area, she is a big fan of them.
Any falconry anywhere.

Covered in scaffolding at the moment though :(
"Heartbeat" country ie Goathland and the North York moors are beautiful :Dl
So are all the Yorkshire Dales area
Just seen falconary bit- a friend recommends www.falconrycentre.co.uk which is near Thirsk which I think is where Herriot was based.
We love Muker and Grassington in the dales but in general prefer quiet places.
Jeannine heartbeat (Goathland) is lovely to visit so many photos to take & the landlord of the pub is lovely he will take photos for you sitting in the famous pub, also the garage is just accross the road it is a lovely village.
The steam train station is just 5 mins away that is set in the 50s we have been a couple of times you can have tea in an old railway carriage of times gone by. mary x

When are they coming over, Jeannine. There are flood warnings out
Oh eck,
They are doing a last minute booking to get a cheap fare, so up till yesterday the booking was not made, The time frame is August 11th thru Sep 13th if I remember correctly but it depends exacyly on what booking they get.
It is the family, well the Dad who is taking me down the Fraser on a raft and we are hoping the bookings don't clash.
