When are Rosehips ready for picking?

After the petals drop and they swell up.  The later you collect them the more sugars they will contain.  I've collected them at the same time as sloes (December).    Are you making ichy powder ? ? ?   :o   Cheers,    Tony.

wait until they've change colour..usually orange/red...you can always taste them..but don't chomp through them.. ;D..they don't have much flesh, only thin layer just underneath skin and rest is seeds="itching powder" ;)

I started picking the really red ones thinking it must be time as they looked ripe. The I read something that made me think I was making a mistake. I will throw them away and leave the others until late on in the year. I want to make Rosehip syrup. I was surprised that the seeds can be used for itching powder........ mmmmm who could I use that on! ;D

Gather as soon as they look like hips is the short answer

Weather condions and variety of rose can vary.

Position in the Universe will also have an effect

BUT basically, it is hard to go wrong with them
