Thanks for the suggestion, but it really doesn't grow taller than about 60cm!! I thought it might be in the spiraea family or leycesteria, but it has yellow flowers ....

Has it got green stems? Does it make berries? The flowers don't look like Leycesteria..but leave are bit like it... :-\
Any chance of another photo..bit further away so we can see more of the whole plant.

Your shrub might be Diervilla splendens or Diervilla sessifolia or some other type of Diervilla.

Thanks Jenny, I think you've got it! It certainly looks like a diervilla of some sort. Here's another couple of photos:
