VERY rarely see a Green Woodpecker but 8 pm tonight, on our lawn - Mum feeding her young with (?) leatherjackets.
Just missed the feeding bit.
This through a not very clean kitchen window 60 feet away"!!
Gorgeous!
Yaffles are beautiful aren't they - ants are a favourite in grass.
Beautiful... I've only seen them up trees in the distance using binoculars... :(
I saw one on the ground just in front of my car last week was gutted just camera was in the back and I could not get it without disturbing the bird. Very beautiful.
Well done Tim for getting the pic.
lovely :)
Lovely Tim ;D.
Lucky you I often hear, but rarely see, them!
I have only ever seen one and that was in Sutton Park

I didn't know they could use binoculars. ;)
Lovely! there are quite a few around where I live and I have seen them on several occasions, flying from tree to tree. They are gorgeous.
We get the odd one on the allotments; they're easier to see than the Greater Spotted, which doesn't leave the bigger trees. Yaffles are a scrubland bird. I worry a bit as they can become a pest of beehives once they learn that there's an easy series of meals inside.
