Title: Anyone used Growing Success fertilisers?
Post by: Chrissie on July 19, 2011, 14:09:11
Hello - haven't been on the site for a while but it's nice to be back!  :D
I picked up several packets of Growing Success Chilli and Pepper granular fertiliser yesterday for 49p for a 1kg packet (being sold off in the stricken T J Hughes). Not because I'm mad about chillis - the PPK balance seemed to be similar to tomato food (heavy on the K) which I know is good for all flowering and fruiting plants. In fact the shop was also selling boxes of fertiliser for soft fruit and for salad greens which had the identical PPK balance.
A bargain! Trouble is the instructions on the pack are vague to say the least - just "sprinkle some on the top of the pot before watering". No idea of quantity!
I just wondered if anyone had used this and had any tips.
Thank you!

I used some of the same stuff a couple of years ago, also obtained in a sale! I sprinkled a couple of teaspoonfuls onto the soil of each of my pepper and chilli plants, they did very well but I wouldn't pay full price for it, prefer Seasol myself! ;D

I pick it up whenever I find it on offer for less than a quid a pack....  seems OK, has some magnesium in it IIRC

Thanks Deb P and chriscross - I wouldn't have paid full price for it either as it probably won't go very far. Good to know it works though   :)

It says on the packet,  Sprinkle granules evenly on the soil at a rate of 135g per sq m (4oz per sq yard) approximately 2 handfuls, and lightly rake in.
Apply to the soil 1 - 2weeksbefore sowing seeds or transplanting young plants. Ensure the soil is moist before application. Feed once a week during the growing season.
I noticed the N.P.K. was the same on all the packets when I bought some on Thursday.
