Title: Dumfries / Dumfries & Galloway
Post by: RenishawPhil on July 15, 2011, 08:44:37
We have just booked our holiday for a week on the isle of arran and looking to break the journey with a night in somewhere like Dumfries or round that area.  Can anyone tell is Dumfries a nice place to stop in?.

We both like our real ale and The isle of Arran seems to be a bit of a real ale desert, Dumfries seems to have lots of pubs according to Camra.

Is the plenty we could do round there for a day. We would aim to get there for about 9ish and make a full day of it.  Open to any suggestions:)

Dumfries & Galoway is a beautiful area. We have been camping a few times at Brighouse Bay just outside Kirkcudbright.

Fond memories of picking mussels from the bay & doing moules marinere acompanied by a delicious

locally made bread. . . :P 8)

It sounds delicious. Great information  from Debs  and others so that vistors can go prepared.

Excellent and helpful.

I just wish I could get my questions so well answered instead of a load of useless opinions I do not need or want.

My apologies because my reply is not helpful either here but I simply could not resist adding my thoughts on this occasion.

Have a wonderful stay.
