Title: sweetcorn - sideshoots?
Post by: PeterVV on July 03, 2011, 21:37:44
I have never tried growing sweetcorn brfore, but have noticed that my plants seem to be growing side shoots at the base of the main stem? Is this normal? will it affect the plant?, should I try and remove them?

Leave them be - it is quite normal for some of the plants to grow them. They do no harm to the plant - whereas if you try to remove them you may damage the main plant.

You'll get a stronger plant if you leave them.

Leave 'em on.   More surface area to absorb sunlight - bigger and sweeter cobs.   Cheers,   Tony.
