Well, I cleared both of our ponds out yesterday in preparation for the frogs coming out of hibernation.
It has been a comparitively mild winter, here in the NEast, so I wondered if I would be seeing them soon. Thought it would be good to check with everyone here to see what is happening in all your ponds - a sort of Frog watch. Will get back to you with any signs and It would be good if all you frog lovers could do the same.  :) busy_lizzie Â
My pond is in its second year and no sign of any life as yet. Had a couple of toads swimming in it last year so I wait with baited breath :-\
Not much happening in mine either yet BL - mind you they're frozen solid at the moment. :(
As soon as the ice melts it's time for a clear out and top up of rain water and then we'll wait and see what happens. I had damselflies, dragonflies, frogs, pondskaters, diving beetles and caddis flies (in abundance) last year so fingers crossed.
Last year my first frogspawn appeared in the pond on the 16th March.(yes I wrote it down for some odd reason!)
With it having been so mild it will be interesting to see if they are out serenading each other earlier this year!
No sign of any frogs here either BL - but the fish are really active due to the present mild spell. Keep coming up for food but I am resisting the urge to feed them as I think the temperatures are due to plummet again in a few days!
Last year we had writhing frogs by feb 14th and spawn shortly after.
This year we already have 3 pairs "at it", 1st pair seen 15th Jan. No spawn yet.
We are in sunny Bournemouth! :D
Had a good look in our pond today and the pond at number one sons school as that was writhing with spawn last spring. Not and amphibian in site! Will keep looking.
Yes, it is that time of year again. Looked in the pond this morning and 4 large froggy bodies were clinging together and writhing :o away in the water. Or as my husband calls it "orgy time". Expect to see up to 30 more frogs at it before too long. Ah!! the ponds will soon be full of babies again. Spring definitely has arrived when that happens. Snow all gone here, blue skies and bright sunny day though still very cold. :) busy_lizzie
well don't seem to have any site of frogs yet but have some spawn in the pond it is alot bigger then frog spawn i think it must be toad spawn not sure only ever had frog spawn before dose anyone no if toads is bigger
At last the frogs are 'at it' in my pond ::) - even though there is about 2" of ice :o
At last for me too. Frogs in the pond and several patches of frog spawn already deposited. Spring must be here at last, despite it still being very chilly. Hurrah!!  :D busy_lizzie
seen at least 20 frogs in my pond today have loads of frog spawn i think i will have some very fat and happy fish this year when we have tabpoles
Well if I don't see some soon I shall be visiting local ponds to nick some
as my kids are desperate for baby tassies to be in our pond
Debs ;D
Dyslexic fingers ... meant baby taddies!!! ;D

My frogs still seem to be slumbering away. Ice everywhere, so not hardy types perhaps. Waiting for warmer weather i think.
Our froggies are going at it already. One whole corner of the pond is covered in spawn, and there's more by the day. I was worried for them if there was another big freeze, but maybe they know something we don't.
Bananagirl, last year my sisters spawn all froze, then thawed, then went on to produce some of the biggest taddies I have ever seen! :o
Fantastic, Doris, I can't wait, although it seems to be warmng up quite nicely. Now it'll be a race between the frogs and the newts to see how many can hatch before the newts eat 'em. The frogs are winning at the mo, though!
Have FAT frogs in our pond, but no spawn! I shall have to keep looking.
