Post by: Duke Ellington on June 21, 2011, 09:35:31
OH left the freezer door open again >:( :'(
It's not the first time he's done it >:( :'( He's done it loads of times. I keep telling him!
I have just had to dump a freezer load of soggy food along with my allotment frozen produce!
I keep telling him not to slam the freezer door to close it! >:(
I AM OFF TO THE ALLOTMENT :(

Duke :'(
I think I am ok now :-X

Can you cook any of it and re-freeze it?

Get him to pay for replacements!

p.s. I know how gutted you feel, as I once did it myself... :(  :'(

eat what you canr. Share it round the neighbours. everyone appreciates free food, dont waste it.

Our freezer broke down earlier this year, managed to salvage some. kept us in food for quite a few days and shared the rest

Watch that your freezer hasnt suffered from being left open. That I think is part of the reason mine died

Get your OH to pay for a audible freezer temperature alarm. Some of the expensive makes of freezer have audible alarms.

Can't you claim from your house insurance? you may get away with it the first time.

I take it you have an upright freezer. Try adjusting the front screw feet, so the freezer leans back slightly. The door should swing back shut on its own. Bit of a pain about the lost food though.

See if you can get locks

http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/80108935 we have these to stop littleone getting into things but we have it on the freezer door as well so you cant leave it open as you have to close and lock it. Might be an answer for you. You can get simuar type ones made by a company called babydan on amazon or kiddiecare.

Very pleased you decided to keep other half :) Now is however the time to get him to do the jobs hes been putting off while tail is between legs :) take care.

My fridge freezer is clever it has an alarm on it.  Leave the door not quite shut or take too long getting something out or in and it bleeps.

Yep ours is the same but you will find the door can still be open a little and the alarm will not go off as i found out 2 hours later :(

I am the one in our house that does things like that.if we have one or more bottles of milk in the door then it makes it heavy and so you cant just swing it shut.
Last year I was moving stuff from the upstairs freezer to the downstairs one. Went to the plot afterwards and when I came back and went upstairs there was a carrier full of bagged up strawberries that had been left on the landing. Cooked them and bagged em up again.
very often I put tea towels and hand towels in the freezer  while I am puttin other stuff in there.
I do have a purple dress so I am allowed.

I have to admit..I'm the one who slams the fridge/freezer door and then it haven't shut properly.. :-X
OH..is the one who is always closing things properly..so that I cannot get lids/tops in jars and bottles open..and he constantly checks if I've left doors open and moans about it..sometimes even before I've had chance getting something out of cupboad..I've turned around and door is shut.."I'm middle of something..leave it!" GRRR... ::).. ;D
But yes..l my freezer is in need of defrosting..I'll get round to it..soon.. ::) :-X

Drill a hole in the door and a hole in the body of the fridge and install a bungee cord.  Simples.   :D  Cheers,   Tony.
