Hi All,
I was thinking of sowing a wall of Ornamental Corn Quadricolour (might be a bit late though) in the bed i want to put my pumpkins into. Do you think that would be ok as its corn and i can treat it like a 3 sisters type planting ?
Anyone got any idea how i might save seed from Ornamental Corn Quadricolour?
Cam
Cam, I don't know too much about this one except as you say it is ornamental . It is a late corn, which would make it 85-90 days from transplant and the colour develops best if given plenty of space between the plants so doing a three sisters you may lose out on colour .
It is not a hybrid so seed saving is simply a matter of letting the corn stay on the plant as long as possible and then letting the cob thoroughly dry out. It will cross with other corns though so be careful if you are growing the other types.
Not much help but ornamental corn is not really one I know too much about. I just remember this one from a few years ago as being popular as an ornamental among flowers due to it's striking striped foliage.
It is better known as Japonica.
good Luck, don't forget the pictures.
