Well it depends is the short answer, the more nurients and water the sweet peas have the longer the stems are likley to be. Cupanii and matucana have short stems anyway and the older the plant the shorter the stems are to in general.
Just cut of the flower stem where it meets the main stem.

But why worry , i have a set of stainless steel milk jugs that are perfect for the shorter stems you can get any number of jugs at the carboot sale that are perfect for them.
Good luck

I was amazed at the length of the stems on annual sweet peas when I first grew them, as my perennial sweet peas have quite short stems. As sunloving says, just use smaller vases! :)

I grow sweet peas every year as my wife loves the scent.....beats anything in an aerosol thats for sure! Usually the stems on mine are about a foot long...dont know if that is good, bad or indifferent, but I do know they bring a smile to my wife's face so that will do for me :D
