I was wandering around B&Q on Sunday not looking for anything in particular when a strip of Dreadnought BB called out. I bought them of course, it would have been rude not to, but I know nothing about BB. Help please. Will they need staking? Have they improved since the old skool dinner bullets of the 60s?
The knack is to pick them when they are still nice and young and green inside while they are still soft and sweet. For me once the eye of the bean has gone dark it is too late.
Please banish all memories of the school dinner bullets.
Well, maybe not stake, but they can flop a bit. something to lean on is sometimes appreciated.
Surely if they are bullets, they are undercooked? Of course you have to take the skin off them once they are cooked, unless they are very young but I find the flavour too string then (fussy fussy). They are nice cooked and cooled in a salad, e.g in a rice salad with some sweet peppers, tomatoes, red onions.
