Title: Celeriac
Post by: BAC42 on June 15, 2011, 14:20:32
Never had a problem in the past but this year Three of them seem to have bolted.
Any one know if they can be saved and what is the likely cause?
I guess it's overwatering in the long dry spell.

I don't think its overwatering as they are a bog plant and love to be soaked, not sure why they bolted though.   :-\ ???

More liekly not enough water in the dry spell..... they love wzter..... once I get the autowatering in the greenhouse going the celeriac sits on a spur off that, gets two hours a day every daythrough small-bore leaky pipe woven through the bed.....

As a new celeriac grower, I asked around our allotment about bolting and some experienced growers told me that celeriac is a bit like beetroot, if you plant them out too soon or not properly hardened off they will think they have had a winter and need to produce seeds and therefore bolt. So far none of my first ever batch have done so.
