Title: Spam Update
Post by: ceres on June 15, 2011, 10:53:56
The level of spam coming to the forum isn't normal, it carried on all through the night and is still happening.  I think I may have worked out what's going on.  Many forums worldwide automatically check new registrations against the Stopforumspam database and reject known spammers.  I do a manual check of the database for suspect registrations as this forum isn't connected for auto-screening.  About 24 hours ago Stopforumspam went down (and is still down) and I think spammers have cottoned on and are blitzing forums everywhere because those that were protected are no longer.  Let's just hope Stopforumspam is back up soon and things settle down again.  Please bear with us in the meantime, we'll try to keep us much as possible away and/or remove it quickly.

As ever, don't click on any links if you don't know the poster.

Thanks.  Stopforumspam came back up a couple of hours ago but the spammers are still coming.  Seems to have slowed a little though, touch wood.

It's astonishing really.  There's been over a hundred new spam members in the last few days from every country you could imagine including the UK.  They have to know that no-one ever clicks on the links so it can only be a game for them.  Sad, weird people.

Anyway, thankfully, we appear to be back to something approaching normal now.  Long may it last!

When i visited USA a friend of mine took me to a skyscraper where there are 3 whole floors of girls who clock in every day, make a new email address and they send out spam all day long on behalf of various companies! It was amazing to think this is their employment 5 days a week 8 hours a day, and they get paid good money to do it !! I was astounded !  :o

I do not bother to sign in or contibute much lately for a variety of reasons.

However. I do check out the site as a guest.

I will say and want it to be known that you and the others who look after this site do a fantastic job.

There are always a lot who will complain and moan and I will do my share too.

None the less you monitors are spectacular with your efforts and I would ask others who use this site to add their thanks to mine.

People read and do not leave a reply. Can I suggest that those who are reading this and agree just leave a brief message of thanks to you by agreeing?
