Hi everyone
Its our local Rose show on saturday and guess what? all my roses seem to have full blooms that are just going over or smallish buds.
I've dead headed them and given them a feed, is there anything else I can do to speed up bud development? If the buds get any bigger do you think it would be worth me picking some and bringing them indoors in the warm to develop for 48 hours?
Also, in the show schedule it calls for Large Flowered (HT) Roses. I grow mainly David Austin Roses which I thought were 'Shrub' Roses but do you think they could also be classed as 'HT'.
Thanks anyone and everyone.
HT= hybrid tea roses..Well..David Austin Roses doesn't really tell much about the variety..they do lot of roses, all kind of..HTs too. Without variety names one cannot really help. But if you mean as DA s as general..no, they don't tend to be HTs. Any show entry's are always very specific about their classes.
Only way I know that you can speed up the flower is that if the bud is showing the colour, like you said, bring it indoors or in GH where there is good light and more warmth than outside.
But if your buds are still 'green', I'm afraid it is too much to ask for getting them ready for Saturday. You really only got couple of days as they need to be open in Saturday.
Ah yes, just did a search on DA Roses for hybrid T's and I dont have any of them. I only have shrub roses from DA, which are what I always think of as DA Roses.
So tight green bugs and 'not according to schedule'... not looking for many points then... Wisley Rose Garden with an invisibility cloak here I come..
Update...
Well many werent ready but a couple were, so I walked away with two first prizes, two seconds and a third.
The judge did give me a tip though that next time pick the roses up to a week before hand, wrap in clingfilm and put in the fridge. Roll on next year......
Ohh..well done! I hope you are please with that.
So now you are one experience richer and come back with some new knowledge as well. ;)
Thanks for sharing it with us..
