My Wilko Kiwi plant has died :(
Rather than but another one, I am trying to take cuttings from somebody else's kiwi plant.
The problem is, I do not know the variety of the donor plant, all the owner can say it was sold as a 'Mini Kiwi'
The plant has small fruit with small flowers, but none are swelling.
Is there any way to tell if this plant is self fertile, other than wait and see if the fruits sell or not?
Hi Chrispy, the only mini-kiwi I know of is called 'Issai' and it is self-fertile,but produces smaller fruits than 'Jenny' which is another self-fertile kiwi, only not a mini variety. 'Issia' is fully hardy down to -29C so no worries there. However,I cannot help you with the colour of the flowers, except to say the flowers on 'Jenny' are white. I know this as I have two myself and both have taken this year. The plant fruits on wood two years old and beyond. How old are your cuttings? If they are too young they may not set fruit just yet.
Thank you, I had not heard of 'Issai', and after googleing it, I think that is the most likely what it is.
