Title: Inherited onion rot?
Post by: manicscousers on June 13, 2011, 17:01:29
we took on an overgrown plot last november, we were told it hadn't been used for about 7 years and, from the state of it, it was possible,..
So, one bed was treated with well rotted muck and planted with overwintering onions and garlic. They did really well over winter but this is what they look like today, we've taken everything out and skinned the lot, trying to dry the garlic which is quite large and freezing the onions which are affected . Have we done the right thing?

Happened to me.... the site that I'm on reopened after a few years shut and white rot seems to be endemic through it.... yesterdays rain will have helped it spread too.... it's gutting cos I've got rare heirloom multipliers I'm going to have to try adn rescue, thankfully most are top-setting so it should be possible , but my elephant garlic I might need to start again....
