When should I start winter cabbage etc
My savoys are already in
I sowed 2 lots of Wintessa that have both died so am going back to old faithful Tundra. Will be sowing these tonight and they can be sown through to end of July. harvest Nov-April, stand well over winter, very hardy and have always produced the goods ;)
My sprouts have been in a long while. Purplesb and dwarf curly kale are at seedling stage and need potting into modules tomorrow...These both survived last winter without problems. I'd sow winter stuff now and spring cabbage/caulies about august. Rather depends on where you live I guess.
I planted my Tundra about 5 weeks ago and are well on their way now...
Sprouts all the way for me.... living on my own means that a hadnful of sprouts isn't a pest to harvest, but a cabbage sentances me to a week of eating progressively less fresh cabbage for a week.....

A suggestion if you can't get through a whole cabbage: make a garlic cream sauce to mix with lightly cooked fresh cabbage, then freeze it in suitable portions.
In my experience it tastes delicious and fresh.
Cabbage or any other veg can be cooked, blended, and used to thicken a soup.
I dont grow many as I cant stand cabbage!!!! or sprouts, but other members of my family like them , so I grow them for them...
