Title: asparagus
Post by: superdupa on June 08, 2011, 18:40:41
Hello all,a little advice needed please.I planted 10 asparagus crowns bought from Marshalls in February of this year and whilst they all grew they are now turning yellow and dying off. They were planted in a trench with well rotted manure as well as being covered with compost then soil as they grew. They have been well watered and I have followed the advice on the planting instructions.

I'm actually suprised that your instruction advised you to plant the crowns with manure..as asparagus is traditionally planted on trench with ridge and with sand/gravel to prevent water logging...and the manure would be best used as mulch on surface to keep the soil moist underneath.
But as the weather has been dry.. ::)..waterlogging is least of your worries so far ;D
Yep..I'm 'with' Robert..have you done enough watering? They would not be establish enough yet so will need help from you the first year.
