I'm dying to put my tomato plants out as they are getting abit long and leggy. Do you think its to early as nighttime temps will be about 7 or 8C?
Well..my outdoor totatoes are 'dying out' to go into outdoor bed too..and will do so very soon..as I get chance to do so. Mine have been ouside under fleece 'tent' now for 2 weeks and haven't been bothered by the temperature.
If your's are in warm GH...it would be good to harden them off before giving them 'the send off' to big wide world.. ;) or...as the soil is warm enough now..you could plant them and give fleece wrap (horticultural sort..not the 'woolly type.. ;D) for while...just to to take edge off from the cold nights.. ;)
Mine have been in the house for the last couple of weeks due to the windy weather. Might put a couple out and cross my fingers ;D

mine too! it really varies from place to place and year to year doesn't it! I started them off in april in a home made mini-gh/cloche, but it was so boiling hot i took that off pretty soon. I find them fairly tough. But beans and cucumbers I find much more susceptible to cold winds.
You might as well get them out.
In the UK growing out door tomatoes is always a risk.
If the cold does not get them the blight usually finishes them off.
Personally, I think, with the money the government spends on horrible things we do not want. It is about time they invested into sorting out the weather.
Billions spent on warfare. Then they tell us that 'climate change' is our fault because we cant sort out our waste.
Now then I have carefully sifted out my glass, tins, platic etc for the last 10 years.
The weather is still crap.
Mine went out of the indoor greenhouse into the unheated conservatory, and are now on the cold windowsill in there. I am building my little bamboo scaffolding on Saturday, and then out they go. Can't wait any longer now. ;)

Well I put half of them out and I might leave the rest to next week as the forecast for saturday night for 5C ::)
All my tomatoes are planted both inside and out.They seem to be surviving despite the wind. As previously mentioned beans and curcubits aren't as tough as tomatoes. I've got a courgette , a winter squash and a Lidl pumpkin going out by day and in the poly at night. I reckon they go out on Sunday even if they need a fleece pully. I know early June can be nippy but we had hail this afternoon and it still seems a bit cool for the time of year. Definately a lettuce year.... ::) However the 'shower' filled the bins in record time so I'm happy ;D

Well I'm in Essex & mine have been out over a month - I have several small fruits - about the size of a large cherry. they look amazing for this early - should be eating them by July I reckon!! ;D
Mine are going out on Sunday.... can't wait any longer, got festies coming up.... plus need the GH to be fully sorted with autowatering..... and all the other tender stuff too....
At least I finished back-filling all the potato ridges with manure this evening.... that's 2/3 of one of my plots that's going to be just fabullous soil next year...

Bunged mine out a couple of weeks ago but they don't harf look miserable and seem to have shrivelled.
Put mine out about a fortnight ago... in baskets, tubs and the ground and all seem to be thriving... except one which has a bit of botrys on the stem... I've given it a scrape and a sear but I have enough if it keels over.. :-X
I have some out for several weeks but the have been in bottle cloches. However they have now outgrown these. The next few night are forecast to be quite cold. With only 4C forecast for Saturday night. Which means there could be a 'touch of ground frost'.
I have put a collection of old compost bags and pop up bins over them. They do not have to be translucent since I will whip them off in the morning.
They survived a frost twice under bottle cloches.
