Hi Ev eryone
I've recently dug all of my leeks, and have a little plot the size of a double bed to play with. I have weeded it, spread over a little wrm, and put a carpet over it, as I am too busy with planting/sowing on the rest of the plot to think about it.
So here's a question: What should I sow or plant on this: Should I leave it for Autumn sown stuff, and if so what? Or should I plant out on it now, and if so what?
Any suggestions welcome. I already have potatoes, brassicas, strawberries and soft fruit, beans, peas, onions, parsnips sown, herbs and a flower plot, plus salads. But no possibility will be discounted!
What would YOU do?
All suggestions welcome
Caro
use it for the successive sowing of your salad crops as they will be finished by the time your autumn crops are ready to go in.
I wouldn't be without some of the squash tribe, and they're also big, fun, and easy to grow.
Yes I was thinking courgettes, cucumber, pumpkin.
sweetcorn - sown directly.
I would sow some greenmanure..that would give you few weeks time to think about the plot..and then dig it in and maybe planting some winter/spring crops...kale perharps? With greenmanure..all the goodness stay in ground and all the manure/nutrients will be 'pre-digested' by the plants and then by worms.
Winter squash. Nice to have in the stash when the weather is too foul to trip out for the greens, parsnips etc ; 8)
Definately winter squash, they will give you a harvest that will store for several months. It would be a great size for a corn bed too. Planted in a block which is best it would be perfect, then you could let a couple of winter squash grow around the corn stalks if the ground is well manured they should do well..

If I have any vacant areas I sow green manure on it. It keeps the weeds down and ends up feeding the soil
Hi Everybody,
I was a bit spoiled for choice but decided to go with direct sown sweetcorn - which did germinate and now, in our showery western weather are doing well. A couple of winter squash, plus I have sown Little Gem lettuce all round the outsides of the plot. So I hope to have maximised on cropping, plus I have a packet of green manure ready to go in after everything comes out!
You are all very generous with your time and I really appreciated your suggestions.
