Title: Some gooseberries have not flowered yet
Post by: davholla on May 10, 2011, 09:59:32
I have 4 bushes near each other, planted Autumn 2007.
Two are Hinomkai red and green - they have both grown well and have lots of flowers, small etc.
The others are Leveller and Langley Gage they have not grown so well and this year do not have any flowers.  Any ideas?

How have you been pruning them?  Are they in full leaf?

Interesting this. Our next door plot holder has a white mould or mildew on his gooseberries. Now we no longer bother to grow them but years ago we got mold on ours when it was very wet and humid but this year we have not seen rain for weeks.

I know some fruits do take  a year off every so often.  We have had that in the past. In fact it is often a response to over pruning.

But if any one is expert on gooseberries perhaps they can help us both

I have some bushes that are in the open so they get plenty of air, these bushes have massive amounts of fruit. I have otheres which are shaded by the chook pen and these are covered in a mildew and not a single fruit to boot  :-\.

Sorry for the delay, I was away.
They are in full leaf and I didn't really prune them last year.
