Post by: goodlife on May 08, 2011, 15:35:24
For my great suprise I noticed one of my peppers are soon coming to a flower... :o Buds are already showing white petal colour.. :o And its only a begining of May!
I've never ever had my peppers been so advanced and so early....so if this is promise of things to come..It's looking good.. ;)

California and long bull's horn doing really well but not as advanced as yours, got a truss of flowers on most tomatoes, though, here's to an early harvest, just got to keep them all going until autumn  ;D

The variety that is coming to flower is Buran..there is not much growth yet..plants are still small..so now I'm wonderingt should it take buds off and sacrifice the early crop for decent growth or let it do its thing and get some early fruit..propably small but edible.. :-\
Should I be greedy or not?

depends how many plants you have, and how greedy you are for your own peppers  ;D

I have some Mowhawk with fruit on - about the size of a 2p coin. My California are not close to flowering though. Apache have been really slow - still very small.

Other pepper varieties are totally flower buddless..so I suppose I could be bit greedy and let the plant do what it wants.. ;)

I've got four pepper plants (2* Lany, 1* Orange Bell, 1* Jolly Giallo) and all bar the Jolly G have fruit on them. This photo was from 2 weeks ago of one of the Lany.

Oh my goodness!!!  :o

Mine are happy enough, but pretty small and no sign of flowering. But they're called minibel, so maybe they're meant to be small!

I can only echo Pigeonseed - "my goodness" !! Mine aren't even planted out yet, may put some in the GHouse this week though.

On a more positive note my overwintered chillies are flowering  8)

So Goodie - did you pinch the flower out?

After reading your posts I feel a little sad (for me) but happy for you all

After recovering from a set-back when all the leaves wilted and dropped off (following an excessively hot day in the GH) my plants are no bigger than 4-5 inches in height.
Maybe they will pick up  ???

Growing Californian Wonder, Yellow Ringo, Orange Sun and Marconi Red

Good grief! Mine have only just gone out onto the plot! they are about 10cm high, bless 'em. Last year I got a few peppers from each so maybe this year will be good too. I grow  Robertina, which is an east european variety.

10 cm sounds so much better than 4 or 5 inches ;)

I got 5 pepper plants from b&q about 6 weeks ago and have just repotted them.  They are doing brilliantly, flowers on them.

Also ones I have sown myself are doing very well, the best I have ever done.  I just need to get them to fruiting point.

Actually I have always found that peppers flower quite early when the plant is very small but those first flowers don't come to owt. The second flowering usually gives fruit though. I only grow outdoors though,

I haven't had much luck with peppers over the years and I have no idea why. This year I bought a plant at HomeBase and rather than grow on the GH thought I'd grow it up at the plot. Will it fruit do you think, are yours gown indoors or out?

I'm afraid they are best indoors..unless the weather keeps like this most of the summer... ::) You might get lucky if you have sheltered warm spot where 'they' might think being in holiday resort..and I'm not talking about Skegness.. ;D ::)

Mohawk overwintered on the windowsill is throwing out loads of flowers and had a fair few peppers developing on it despite having lost half of the plant when the woman pulled the roller blind off the wall on it!  Overwinted sweet chocolate pepper is also throwing out fruit and a new mex suave red has just got some flowers opening up.

Peppers sown this year (early march I think) are developing a different rates and are still quite immature but a sweet yellow plant I bought last month is already in flower (as is the first truss on a sweet million tom I bought at the same time)
